Teen behaves erratically after alleged Kpod abuse near Junction 8, rushed to hospital

A teenager was seen staggering and convulsing on an overhead bridge in Bishan after allegedly using a Kpod vape. His zombie-like behavior drew public alarm, prompting a swift police and ambulance response.

Public Disturbance in Bishan

On the evening of July 16, a teenager alarmed passers-by when he began acting erratically on an overhead bridge opposite Junction 8 in Bishan, Singapore. According to eyewitness Collin Wee, the teen was seen vaping while struggling to walk, eventually convulsing and dropping his phone and vape. His behavior was described as “zombie-like,” raising fears of Kpod abuse—a dangerous vape substance increasingly affecting youth.

Attempts to assist the boy were met with aggression, especially when a young man tried to return his dropped belongings. Despite this, a woman managed to help guide him down the stairs. Shockingly, just before reaching the ground level, the teen resumed vaping. Concerned bystanders, including Wee, promptly called the police.

Emergency Response Activated

Shortly after the report, a police car and an ambulance arrived at the scene. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that one person was transported to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Videos circulating online showed the boy visibly unstable, sitting slumped with his head in his arms and stumbling while walking.

According to a statement by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), vaping-related offences have surged sharply. Over 2,500 public complaints were received in the first half of 2025 alone, nearing last year’s full total of 3,000. Under Singapore law, possession or use of vapes—especially those containing etomidate, classified as a poison—can lead to up to two years in jail or a fine of S$10,000.

Public Reactions and Concerns

Wee’s social media post quickly went viral, drawing both sympathy and concern from the public. He stressed that such Kpods are “killing the kids of Singapore.” The images and videos sparked debate over how accessible these substances have become, especially among teens, despite strict laws.

Growing Threat to Youth

Kpod abuse highlights a disturbing trend of increasing substance misuse among Singaporean youth. The incident also reveals challenges in enforcement and public awareness. With symptoms resembling neurological distress, Kpod poses a serious health risk, demanding urgent attention from both authorities and communities.

This incident underscores the growing dangers of illegal vaping products like Kpods, not just in Singapore but across Southeast Asia. As both nations combat rising youth drug abuse, stricter enforcement, awareness campaigns, and early intervention could help protect the region’s younger generations from irreversible harm.
