Amazon’s latest investment underscores Singapore’s role as a pivotal tech hub in Asia.
In a move that cements Singapore’s status as a linchpin in the global digital economy, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled its expansive Asia-Pacific headquarters in the city-state. This development not only highlights AWS’s commitment to the region but also underscores Singapore’s strategic importance in the tech landscape.
On February 12, 2025, AWS inaugurated its Asia-Pacific Hub at IOI Central Boulevard Towers in Singapore’s central business district. Spanning over 360,000 square feet across eight floors, this facility is designed to accommodate up to 3,000 employees from more than 100 teams. The hub will house AWS’s first flagship executive briefing center in Asia and an innovation hub slated to launch by the third quarter of 2025.
AWS’s Financial Commitment
In May 2024, AWS announced plans to invest an additional S$12 billion into its existing cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028. This investment aims to meet the growing customer demand for cloud technology and services in the country. With this new commitment, AWS’s total planned investment in Singapore is set to double to more than S$23 billion by 2028.
AWS’s investment is projected to support approximately 12,300 jobs annually within local businesses in the data center supply chain. These positions include construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other roles within the broader economy. Moreover, the investment is expected to contribute approximately S$23.7 billion to Singapore’s GDP by 2028.

Singapore’s data center market has been experiencing rapid growth, driven by rising demand for cloud computing, AI adoption, and digital transformation initiatives. In 2023, the market was valued at approximately US$1.3 billion and is projected to expand significantly, reaching US$3.0 billion by 2032. This growth is fueled by continued investments from major cloud providers, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, alongside government-backed initiatives to promote sustainable and energy-efficient data centers.
Recognizing the importance of sustainable digital infrastructure, the Singapore government has introduced several initiatives to balance the growth of data centers with energy efficiency. These include green data center policies, sustainable energy initiatives, and research and development investments in low-energy data center technologies. Such measures aim to ensure that the expansion of digital infrastructure aligns with environmental sustainability goals.
Singapore as a Preferred Destination for Multinational Corporations
Singapore’s strategic location, political and economic stability, business-friendly policies, skilled workforce, and advanced digital and physical infrastructure make it an attractive destination for multinational corporations seeking a base in Asia. AWS’s decision to establish its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore underscores the city-state’s vital role in the global digital economy and its appeal to global tech giants.
AWS’s significant investment and expansion in Singapore not only bolster the city’s position as a leading tech hub in Asia but also have far-reaching implications for the global digital economy. For Singaporeans, this development translates to increased job opportunities, enhanced technological infrastructure, and a strengthened economy. International visitors and businesses can view Singapore as a burgeoning center for innovation, offering a conducive environment for technological advancements and collaborations.
