Participants from Indonesia’s Universitas Terbuka Johor Learning Group (UT Pokjar) showcased traditional dances like the Gandrung from East Java and performed in elaborate wedding attire, representing Indonesian culture on an international stage. Nur Yamsi Sakina, head of UT Pokjar, emphasized the pride and excitement the students felt in promoting their heritage abroad.

At the festival, young attendees had the opportunity to color Batam’s signature batik designs under the guidance of Batik artisans. These batik motifs, inspired by the ocean and local marine life, allowed participants to learn about Indonesian heritage while engaging in hands-on cultural activities.
Students from the Indonesian Community Centre (ICC) collaborated with Malaysian schoolchildren, introducing traditional games like ular naga (dragon snake) and lompat karet (rubber jump). Nigerian students studying in Malaysia also joined, creating a vibrant mix of cultures that highlighted the region’s shared values and fostered friendships among participants.
The 2024 festival marked a significant expansion with Singapore’s participation, reinforcing the common cultural roots among Southeast Asian nations. Indonesian Consul General Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto expressed hopes that such collaborations would foster deeper understanding among the younger generation across borders, creating a lasting impact on future leaders in each country.
