Nearly half of approved investments are implemented, supporting thousands of potential new jobs.

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone is beginning to translate cross-border ambitions into projects on the ground, with billions of ringgit already implemented and both governments preparing further measures to attract businesses and improve connectivity.

RM88.83 Billion in Investments Approved
The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone recorded RM88.83 billion, or about S$27.72 billion, in approved investments between January 2025 and June 2026. About RM40.3 billion, equivalent to roughly 45% of the total, had already been implemented, according to a joint statement following the inaugural Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee meeting on November 2.

Projects Linked to Nearly 29,000 Jobs
The approved projects are associated with 28,755 potential employment opportunities, including 12,796 jobs linked to investments that have already been implemented. Malaysian Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the challenge for both countries is to convert investment prospects into tangible outcomes that benefit businesses and communities.

New Committee Strengthens Bilateral Coordination
The inaugural Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee, co-chaired by Akmal and Singapore National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat, replaces the Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia. The new body will provide strategic direction for the SEZ and coordinate areas including investment, infrastructure, utilities, transportation, talent development, and the movement of people and goods.

Connectivity Remains Central to SEZ Growth
Singapore and Malaysia are continuing discussions on improving cross-border transport, including ferry services and taxi connectivity. The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link is expected to begin operations in February 2027, while Malaysia is also pursuing infrastructure improvements and the development of Nexus Sedenak under Budget 2027 to support the economic zone.

Master Plan and Investment Forum Coming Next
Both countries are working toward launching the JS-SEZ master plan at their annual leaders’ retreat in December 2026. A joint investment forum is also planned for the first quarter of 2027 to maintain investor interest and support additional projects. Investment facilitation will continue through Malaysia’s Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre-Johor and Singapore’s JS-SEZ Project Office.

The RM88.83 billion investment pipeline shows that the Johor-Singapore SEZ is moving from policy planning toward implementation, with employment, infrastructure, and cross-border connectivity becoming key measures of progress. For Singaporeans, the zone offers closer access to investment and business opportunities in Johor. For Indonesians, particularly businesses in nearby Batam and the Riau Islands, the growing Johor-Singapore economic corridor is an important regional development to watch as competition and opportunities for investment continue to expand.
