AI health coach will offer lifestyle guidance, screening reminders, and preventive health support.

Google Cloud and NHG Health are preparing to pilot an AI-powered health coach in Singapore that would provide residents with personalized preventive health guidance through WhatsApp, drawing on population health insights and Google’s artificial intelligence technology.

Pilot Begins in Early 2027
Google Cloud and NHG Health will begin testing the AI-enabled health coach with selected Singapore residents in the first quarter of 2027. The nine-month proof-of-concept study could involve several thousand users, including people eligible for Healthier SG who have yet to undergo recommended screenings and seniors who may benefit from frailty prevention support.

Health Advice Delivered Through WhatsApp
The service will operate through NHG HealthBot on WhatsApp, providing personalized lifestyle guidance and preventive care reminders. Users could ask for healthier meal suggestions or nearby places to exercise, with the system drawing on services such as Google Maps. It will support Singapore’s four official languages and allow users to interact using voice messages.

AI Predicts Health Risks Earlier
The health coach is expected to draw on insights from a predictive AI model combining NHG Health’s population health database with Google information on environmental and behavioral patterns. The model aims to forecast population-level risks, including chronic diseases and frailty, potentially helping healthcare providers offer preventive support earlier.

National Expansion Could Follow
If the pilot proves successful, NHG Health hopes the technology can eventually expand beyond residents in northern and central Singapore. NHG Health population health chief operating officer Ong Jing Fang said the longer-term ambition is to make the service available nationally, potentially through Singapore’s HealthHub digital healthcare platform. Clinically sensitive or urgent matters would continue to be directed toward appropriate healthcare channels.

Google Expands Healthcare AI Work
The partnership forms part of Google’s broader healthcare AI expansion in Singapore. Google Research is establishing a local research hub, while its MedGemma model will be introduced into frontline care research. Google DeepMind is also working with the National University Health System to evaluate an AI co-clinician designed to help doctors synthesize medical guidelines and literature when addressing clinical questions. Separately, Google.org and Google DeepMind are contributing US$7 million to the Philanthropy Asia Alliance’s Health for Human Potential Coalition, including US$1 million for the PathGen disease-detection platform.

The collaboration could move AI in Singapore healthcare from experimental tools toward direct preventive support for residents, while keeping clinical decisions within established healthcare channels. For Singaporeans, the pilot could provide easier access to personalized health guidance and screening reminders. For Indonesians, particularly healthcare providers and technology developers watching Singapore’s digital health development, the project offers a regional example of how AI can be integrated into population-level preventive care.
