FIA says racing should proceed while worsening haze could restrict outdoor entertainment activities.

Singapore’s Formula 1 weekend is expected to continue despite unhealthy air quality, although worsening haze could force organizers to scale back some activities around the Marina Bay event.

FIA Expects Race to Continue
Motorsport governing body FIA said on October 8 that the Singapore Grand Prix itself is expected to proceed despite the haze, even if deteriorating conditions require restrictions on entertainment or other outdoor activities. Singapore had been experiencing smoke for several weeks, with air quality reaching the unhealthy range ahead of the race weekend.

Outdoor Entertainment Could Be Restricted
The FIA said contingency measures were in place but did not specify the pollution threshold that would trigger restrictions. Any measures could affect entertainment and other outdoor activities surrounding the event rather than track operations, according to the reports. The governing body said it was following local authorities’ recommendations while working to protect Formula 1 teams.

N95 Masks and Medical Support Prepared
Singapore authorities and race organizers said they were monitoring haze conditions and had contingency plans in place. N95 masks could be made available on-site if required, while organizers would work with relevant agencies to assess any visibility, public health, or operational concerns before making further decisions.

Rain Could Improve Conditions
Rain forecast during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend could help ease haze conditions. However, prevailing winds could continue carrying smoke toward Singapore. Reuters linked the haze to severe fires in Indonesia, describing them as the country’s most intense in more than a decade.

Drivers Remain Focused on Racing
Formula 1 drivers appeared relatively unconcerned about the haze ahead of the event. Cadillac driver Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton indicated that the conditions were not a major concern for them at that stage.

For Singaporeans and visitors, the Grand Prix remains scheduled to proceed, but entertainment and outdoor activities could still be adjusted if haze worsens. For Indonesians, the situation is also regionally significant because the reports identify smoke from Indonesia’s fires as contributing to Singapore’s air-quality problems during one of its largest international events.
