Unexpected labor forces grandmother to become impromptu midwife during frantic hospital journey.
What began as a late-night drive to the hospital became an unforgettable family emergency in Kelantan, Malaysia, when a baby arrived before the family could reach professional medical care.
Baby Arrives During Hospital Journey
Nuraisyah Fauzi, 28, gave birth to a baby boy at about 1:55 a.m. on September 5, 2026, while traveling in a multi-purpose vehicle to KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The family had left Rantau Panjang and was near Kampung Pendek when the delivery suddenly became unavoidable.
Grandmother Steps In as Emergency Midwife
Nuraisyah’s mother, Rosminie Che Yusoff, immediately moved from the front passenger seat to help deliver her grandson after the baby’s head began to emerge. Despite having no professional midwifery experience, Rosminie successfully assisted with the birth while the vehicle continued toward the hospital. Nuraisyah’s husband, Siraj Yasman, 39, said he was panicking and could only recite prayers as events unfolded.
TikTok Videos Helped Her Respond
Rosminie later told her family that she had previously watched TikTok videos explaining childbirth techniques, and she relied on what she remembered during the emergency. Siraj said the videos helped his mother-in-law attempt to assist his wife when there was no time to wait for medical professionals. The extraordinary delivery was recorded by Nuraisyah’s sister, Siti Hajar Tajuddin, 27, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle.
Labor Progressed Faster Than Family Expected
Nuraisyah had begun experiencing contractions at around 11 p.m., but the family did not leave for the hospital until approximately 1:40 a.m. Siraj initially believed they had more time because his wife had already given birth to five children. About 15 minutes into the journey, however, Nuraisyah told him that her clothes were wet and the baby’s head had already emerged, forcing the family to respond immediately.
Mother and Newborn Arrive Safely
After the birth, Siraj held his newborn son while his brother-in-law continued driving toward the hospital, where medical personnel were already waiting for the family. Both Nuraisyah and her sixth child were reported to be in good health upon arrival. Video of the unusual delivery quickly went viral, attracting millions of views on TikTok and turning the family’s unexpected experience into a widely shared story across Malaysia and beyond.
The dramatic birth highlights how quickly a routine hospital journey can turn into an emergency requiring immediate decisions. For Malaysians, Indonesians, and Singaporeans alike, the family’s experience has drawn attention because of its remarkable outcome and the unusual role online information played when professional assistance was not immediately available.
