Rising attacks fuel fears that the fragile truce is rapidly unraveling

Fresh Israeli airstrikes across Gaza have killed at least five Palestinians, raising concerns that months of relative calm following the October ceasefire may be eroding.

Multiple Strikes Reported Across Gaza
Palestinian health officials said Israeli attacks on Thursday killed at least five people in separate incidents across Gaza. Two people died in an airstrike near the Tuffah neighborhood, while another was killed in tank shelling in the Zeitoun district of Gaza City. Additional strikes targeted a tent camp for displaced residents in western Gaza City and a vehicle in Khan Younis in the south.

Attacks Reach Highest Levels Since Ceasefire
According to the conflict monitoring group ACLED, Israeli air operations have intensified significantly in recent weeks, with more than 40 strikes recorded in June alone—the highest monthly total since the October ceasefire took effect.

Ceasefire Increasingly Under Pressure
The ceasefire halted large-scale fighting but failed to stop almost daily military operations and sporadic clashes. Palestinian officials say more than 1,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed since the truce began, while four Israeli soldiers have also died during the same period.

Humanitarian Situation Continues to Worsen
Nearly all of Gaza’s population of around two million people now lives in overcrowded shelters, damaged buildings, or makeshift camps along a narrow coastal strip. Humanitarian agencies continue to warn of deteriorating living conditions and shortages of essential services.

Political Pressures Influence Security Decisions
Analysts suggest domestic political pressures in Israel may be contributing to a tougher military posture ahead of upcoming legislative elections. Israeli authorities maintain that the strikes are intended to prevent attacks by militants operating inside Gaza.

The latest escalation underscores how quickly tensions in Gaza can reignite despite ceasefire agreements. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, the developments serve as a reminder of the wider humanitarian and geopolitical consequences that instability in the Middle East can have on global security and regional diplomacy.
