Ketamine and ecstasy seized in Brickfields operation as police probe sudden death of 31-year-old Malaysian.

Two Singaporeans were among eight men arrested in a narcotics raid at a luxury Kuala Lumpur hotel after a 31-year-old Malaysian guest died and was pronounced dead at hospital on May 24.

Deadly Night At A Luxury Kuala Lumpur Hotel
The incident began when a 31-year-old Malaysian hotel guest was rushed from a luxury hotel to Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s emergency department on Sunday, May 24, where he was pronounced dead. Brickfields police later classified the case as a sudden death pending full lab results to determine the exact cause.

Brickfields Narcotics Officers Move In At 4am
Acting on information linked to the death, officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Brickfields district police raided a room at the same hotel at about 4am. Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the operation targeted suspected drug activity associated with the case.

Eight Men Arrested, Including Two Singaporeans
Police arrested eight male suspects: two Malaysians and six foreigners – two Singaporeans, one Hong Kong national, one Vietnamese, one Indonesian and one Chinese national. All eight have been remanded for three days to assist ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and possible drug offences.

Small Quantities Of Ketamine And Ecstasy Seized
During the raid, officers seized a packet believed to contain 1.5g of ketamine and three ecstasy pills weighing about 0.7g, with an estimated street value of RM225 (approx. S$73). While the amounts are modest, the discovery ties the hotel room to illicit drug use and will form part of the evidence examined alongside toxicology results from the victim’s post-mortem.

Post-Mortem Conducted, Lab Results Pending
A post-mortem on the deceased Malaysian was conducted around noon on Sunday. ACP Hoo said authorities are awaiting laboratory findings to confirm the precise cause of death and to determine whether the drugs seized are directly linked to the fatality. Further charges, if any, will depend on both the medical report and the outcome of questioning the eight suspects.

The Kuala Lumpur hotel raid that left a Malaysian guest dead and eight men – including two Singaporeans – under arrest underscores how nightlife-linked drug use can quickly escalate into cross-border police cases. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, the incident is a reminder that even small quantities of narcotics in overseas hotels can carry serious legal and reputational risks, especially when a sudden death turns a private party into an international investigation.
