A 17-year-old hurt herself, then slashed two employees after her mobile phone was confiscated.
A 17-year-old secondary school student who injured herself with a penknife before slashing two staff members has been ordered to undergo at least six months of reformative training.
Incident And Charges
The girl pleaded guilty in January to one count of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, with a second similar charge taken into consideration. She cannot be named under the Children and Young Persons Act, which protects the identities of offenders under 18.
What Happened At School
On April 28, 2025, she arrived late at school, and the operations manager confiscated her mobile phone before sending her to class. Around 12.20 pm during a break, she approached him outside the general office to ask for it back; when he refused, she took out a penknife, first hurting herself, then slashing his left arm.
Attack On Discipline Master
The operations manager called the discipline master, who confronted the student. She then slashed his arm as well before being disarmed by another school employee and told that the police had been called to the scene.
Aftermath And Arrest
Instead of remaining at the school, the girl left and went home, where she was later arrested by the police. No details were given in court on the extent of the injuries, but both staff members were slashed on the arm.
Sentence, Bail And Reformative Training
On May 14, the court ordered that she undergo reformative training, a custodial regimen for young offenders that can include foot drills, counselling and structured programmes; her bail was set at $10,000, and she is expected to begin serving her sentence on June 15.
The case highlights both the seriousness with which Singapore treats violence in schools and the emphasis on rehabilitating young offenders through reformative training. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, it underscores the importance of early intervention, clear school discipline processes and mental health support to prevent conflicts from escalating into harm.
