White Ferrari from Singapore owners’ convoy skids, crashes and bursts into flames near Kota Tinggi.

Two Singaporeans died when their Ferrari crashed and caught fire along the Johor Bahru–Mersing highway on May 9, during a convoy drive involving members of the Ferrari Owners’ Club Singapore.

Deadly Crash On The JB–Mersing Highway
On Saturday morning, May 9, a white Ferrari 458 Italia carrying two Singaporeans crashed at around the 57.5km mark of the Johor Bahru–Mersing highway near Kota Tinggi. The accident happened at about 9 am. Kota Tinggi district police superintendent Yusof Othman said officers were alerted after a member of the public lodged a report about a burning vehicle by the roadside.

Victims Identified As Singapore Couple
Malaysian police identified the victims as driver Yeo Tian Wen, 34, and his reported girlfriend, Ng Puay Ying, 33. Both suffered severe injuries and burns and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were later taken to the forensic unit of a hospital in Kota Tinggi for post mortem examinations. Superintendent Yusof said the car is believed to have skidded on its own before crashing, with no other vehicles immediately implicated.

Part Of A 30 Car Ferrari Convoy
The Ferrari was part of a larger convoy of more than 30 cars from the Ferrari Owners’ Club Singapore travelling on the B road towards Mersing, The Straits Times reported, citing a businessman who joined the drive. At least 10 cars from the convoy were seen stopped further back from the wreck as fellow drivers and onlookers watched the blaze. The group outing turned into a tragedy that highlighted risks even on leisure drives among experienced enthusiasts.

Vehicle Engulfed In Flames After Impact
Video clips circulating online show thick black smoke billowing from the burning supercar on the roadside verge, with debris and twisted metal scattered nearby. By the time emergency services arrived, the vehicle had been largely consumed by fire. The intensity of the blaze contributed to the severity of the victims’ injuries and complicated on scene efforts, underscoring the dangers of high performance cars involved in high impact crashes.

Police Investigation Into Cause Under Way
Malaysian authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the accident. Early indications point to the Ferrari skidding before impact, but police have not yet disclosed detailed findings on speed, road conditions or any mechanical factors. For Indonesians and Singaporeans who frequently drive across the Causeway for weekend trips, the fatal crash is a stark reminder of the importance of speed control, convoy discipline and road awareness on unfamiliar highways.

The deaths of Yeo Tian Wen and Ng Puay Ying in the fiery Ferrari crash along the JB–Mersing highway bring home the high stakes of performance driving on public roads, especially during group convoys. For Indonesians and Singaporeans, the incident underlines the need for careful planning, defensive driving and respect for local conditions when travelling across borders, so that leisure drives remain safe rather than ending in preventable tragedy.
