Police investigate after suspect reportedly damaged property and threatened others with a cleaver

A man has been arrested in Selangor after allegedly turning violent at a seafood restaurant in Telok Panglima Garang, in an incident that has drawn public attention following the spread of a viral video online.

Incident Began at Seafood Restaurant
The incident took place at a seafood restaurant in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, at around 3.30pm on April 8. Malaysian media reports said the confrontation began after a restaurant employee asked the suspect to settle unpaid bills for earlier meals.

Viral Video Drew Public Attention
Footage circulating online appeared to show a man in his 30s running out of the restaurant and chasing another man while holding a meat cleaver. The clip quickly spread on social media and triggered wider concern over public safety in the area.

Police Say Property Was Also Damaged
Kuala Langat district police chief Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said the suspect allegedly behaved aggressively toward officers and patrol vehicles while armed with a meat cleaver and a rattan stick. Police also said initial investigations found that he had damaged three vehicles belonging to members of the public, as well as various items inside the restaurant.

Suspect Was Detained and Taken for Examination
Authorities detained the man at the scene before taking him to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for examination. Police said the case is being investigated under offences linked to using criminal force to obstruct a public servant, mischief, and possession of a dangerous weapon in a public place without lawful authority.

Police Are Seeking More Information
Malaysian police have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Kuala Langat district police headquarters. The case adds to ongoing public concern over violent incidents captured on video and shared widely online, especially when they occur in busy community spaces.

This case has raised concern because a dispute over payment reportedly escalated into a public safety incident involving damaged property and alleged threats. For Malaysians, it is a reminder of how quickly tensions in everyday settings can spiral into criminal cases. For Singaporeans and other regional readers, it also shows how viral footage can rapidly turn a local incident into a broader public discussion about safety and enforcement.
