Stronger joint action aims to protect public trust as online fraud threats grow
OJK Kepulauan Riau and Polda Kepri are strengthening coordination as digital financial crime becomes more complex, with both institutions moving to protect public trust, financial stability, and regional investment confidence.
Coordination Strengthens as Risks Increase
The Financial Services Authority in Riau Islands, or OJK Kepri, says stronger coordination with Polda Kepri has become increasingly important as digital financial crime grows more sophisticated. The collaboration is seen as essential not only to protect the public from technology-based fraud, but also to preserve confidence in the financial system and the region’s investment climate.
Strong Growth Comes With New Threats
OJK Kepri chief Sinar Danandjaya said the province’s economy grew 7.89 percent year on year in 2025, while banking performance also improved strongly. He noted that commercial bank assets rose 13.74 percent, third-party funds increased 13.20 percent, and lending surged 25.85 percent. Still, he warned that these positive trends are unfolding alongside serious risks from digital financial crime, including online scams and illegal lending activities.
Joint Action Targets Illegal Financial Activity
To respond, OJK is pushing for stronger inter-agency cooperation, including better use of the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre at the regional level. The center is intended to speed up the handling of reports and the blocking of bank accounts suspected of being linked to financial crime. Sinar said synergy between OJK and Polda Kepri is key to cutting off illegal financial activity before it causes wider losses.
Enforcement and Education Move Together
Several practical measures are now being discussed, including closer coordination with Satgas Pasti in handling financial fraud, stronger action against illegal investment schemes, and wider financial literacy outreach. Education is a major focus because fraud risks are often higher in communities with limited access to verified information. OJK and the police have agreed to use local government and security networks to reach residents in coastal areas and outer islands, where illegal financial practices can spread more easily.
Public Trust Remains the Main Goal
Kepri Police chief Irjen Pol Asep Safrudin said the police fully support stronger cooperation with OJK, stressing that financial sector stability is a key foundation for public and investor confidence. Both sides have committed to maintaining responsive communication channels, both formal and informal, to anticipate and respond quickly to disruptions in the financial services sector. The broader goal is to build a healthier, safer, and more trusted financial ecosystem that can support sustainable economic growth in the Riau Islands.
This stronger partnership between OJK Kepri and Polda Kepri shows that financial growth alone is not enough without strong protection against digital abuse. For Indonesians, especially in Kepulauan Riau, the effort matters because fraud, illegal lending, and fake investment schemes can quickly undermine both household security and public trust. For Singaporeans watching developments in nearby Kepri, the move also highlights how regional financial centers are being pushed to strengthen enforcement and literacy at the same time as their economies expand.
