A 34-year-old man identified as SSM has been arrested in Sagulung, Batam, for allegedly committing repeated acts of abuse against his biological child since January 2026. The case came to light after the victim reported physical discomfort to the mother, prompting further investigation by authorities.

Sagulung Police Criminal Investigation Unit head Iptu Anwar Aris said that following the report, officers conducted an examination of the victim and found indications of abuse. The suspect has since been detained and is currently undergoing legal proceedings under Indonesia’s child protection laws.

The Batam Child Protection Agency (LPA) has strongly condemned the incident. LPA secretary Erry Syahrial called for the harshest possible punishment, stating that such crimes represent a serious societal issue. The suspect has been charged under Article 76E in conjunction with Article 82 of Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection, as well as provisions under the revised Criminal Code. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Authorities have confirmed that the legal process is ongoing as they continue to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
