Consulate assisting family following fatal crash outside Top 100 Jodoh mall
A 62-year-old Singaporean man has died after a traffic accident in Batam, Indonesia, where a truck ran over the motorcycle he was riding on as a passenger.
Fatal Accident Outside Batam Mall
The accident occurred on the afternoon of March 4 outside the Top 100 Jodoh shopping centre in Batam.
Local reports said the Singaporean man was riding pillion on a motorcycle when the vehicle was struck and run over by a truck.
Victim Trapped Under Truck
Footage circulating online showed two individuals trapped beneath the front of a green truck at the scene.
The truck’s bumper appeared dented as bystanders attempted to help rescue those caught under the vehicle.
Singaporean Victim Identified
According to Shin Min Daily News, the 62-year-old victim worked at a shipping company based in Batam.
He and the motorcycle rider were reportedly dragged under the truck’s wheels during the collision.
Death Confirmed at the Scene
The Singaporean man was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident.
Details about the condition of the motorcycle rider were not immediately available.
Consulate Assisting Family
The Singapore Consulate-General in Batam has contacted the victim’s family.
Officials are currently assisting with arrangements to repatriate the body back to Singapore.
