Nongsa suspects face up to 12 years after late-night attack
A delayed tombstone order in Batam escalated into a violent assault and motorcycle theft, leading to the arrest of two young men in Nongsa within hours of the incident.

The incident was reported in the early hours of Feb 15 at around 2:00am through the 110 emergency call center. The Nongsa Police Operations Team immediately responded and conducted checks at the scene.
Head of Public Relations for Barelang Police, Iptu Budi Santoso, said two suspects were arrested by 4:00am the same day.
Suspects And Victims Identified
Deputy Nongsa Police Chief AKP Gunawan Husein identified the suspects as MAS alias P and MSL alias M, both 22 years old and residents of Nongsa District.
The victims were a 32-year-old man identified as NA and a 20-year-old woman identified as AM, who are related.
Dispute Over Tombstone Order
The attack was allegedly triggered by anger over a tombstone order worth Rp400,000 that had not yet been completed. According to police, suspect P was upset that the gravestone for his father had not been delivered.
The victim NA had borrowed AM’s motorcycle to shop at a stall before being confronted late at night.
Assault And Robbery
Police said the suspects beat the victim, tied him with a plastic rope they had purchased, and left him bruised by the roadside.
They allegedly stole the motorcycle, a mobile phone, and a portable charger. After the attack, the suspects reportedly went to drink bandrek in the Kabil area.
Victim Hospitalized, Evidence Seized
The victim suffered serious injuries and received treatment at Bhayangkara Police Hospital. Authorities later secured evidence including two motorcycles, a mobile phone, and vehicle registration documents.
The estimated loss from the incident reached Rp13 million.
Charges And Potential Sentence
Both suspects were arrested at their residence in Nongsa. They are charged under Article 479 paragraphs (1) and (2) letters a and d of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
If convicted, they face up to 12 years in prison.
