From Laboratory Concept to Real-World Manufacturing
Singapore-based battery developer Flint has officially begun pilot production of its paper-based battery technology, marking a critical shift from laboratory research to manufactured battery cells ready for customer testing and early deployments. Production is now live in Singapore, allowing Flint to deliver rechargeable, non-toxic, and biodegradable battery cells engineered for safer use, including non-flammable and non-explosive performance.

Reducing Dependence on Conventional Battery Materials
Flint’s proprietary battery architecture is built around cellulose, enabling the company to significantly reduce reliance on conventional materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and lead. Its batteries are also PFAS-free and designed with improved end-of-life options under controlled conditions, addressing growing environmental and regulatory concerns surrounding traditional battery waste.

Purpose-Built Facility and Water-Based Manufacturing

To support its move into production, Flint expanded into a new facility exceeding 8,000 square feet in Singapore. The site is purpose-built for its cellulose-based battery design and uses water-based manufacturing methods aimed at improving safety, lowering carbon intensity, and enabling scalable output. The facility also serves as a hub for process optimization and ongoing research into next-generation battery technologies.

Strong Momentum Throughout 2025
Flint’s production milestone builds on a year of significant recognition and commercial traction. In 2025, the company won the Best of CES Sustainability Award, raising its global profile. It also entered pilot programs with major technology players, including Logitech through the Future Positive Technology Challenge, Amazon Devices via an MIT-backed Climate Tech Accelerator, and Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Ecosystem, which supports design and manufacturing scale-up.

Funding and Leadership Driving Commercialization
The company raised US$2 million in a pre-Series A funding round in 2025, involving angel investors and its co-founders, to support its asset-light growth strategy. Founder and CEO Carlo Charles, named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Asia 2025” in Industry, Manufacturing and Energy, described entering production as a turning point that enables real-volume manufacturing with quality controls customers can validate.

CES 2026 and Expansion Beyond Singapore

Flint plans to formally unveil its first two commercial paper battery products at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, with live demonstrations and real-world integrations. Looking ahead, the company is in discussions with one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers to expand production capacity in Europe. Such a move would align Flint with European sustainability ecosystems, including Nordic-led initiatives in green technology, battery regulation, and the circular economy.

Next-Generation Battery Development
Alongside scaling production, Flint is developing a solid-state derivative of its cellulose-based chemistry aimed at higher-density rechargeable applications. This technology targets markets still dominated by lead-acid batteries and other legacy systems, potentially opening new pathways for cleaner energy storage across industries.
