Prabowo pushes disaster recovery housing while advancing Indonesia’s long-term Hajj village vision
Indonesia is moving swiftly on two critical fronts: restoring dignity for disaster-hit communities at home and strengthening facilities for Indonesian pilgrims abroad. Under President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, coordinated efforts are underway to ensure recovery, resilience, and long-term national benefit.
Accelerated Housing for Disaster-Affected Communities
President Prabowo Subianto received a detailed report from Minister of Downstream Industry and Investment and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, at his private residence in Jakarta on December 27, 2025. The briefing focused on the construction of 15,000 housing units intended for communities affected by disasters across Sumatra, including Aceh and surrounding regions.
Immediate Targets and Multi-Agency Coordination
Of the total plan, 500 housing units are scheduled to be ready for construction in the initial phase. These units are part of a broader recovery strategy involving Danantara, the National Disaster Management Agency, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. The approach combines temporary shelters with permanent housing to ensure both short-term relief and long-term stability.
BUMN and Banking Sector Support
According to Danantara’s official statement, the first 500 temporary housing units are being built on land owned by PTPN III and are supported by financing from state-owned banks under Himbara, alongside Bank Syariah Indonesia. Construction work on the ground is being carried out by seven state-owned construction firms, reflecting strong coordination between public institutions.
On-the-Ground Oversight in Aceh
Danantara’s Chief Operating Officer, Dony Oskaria, personally inspected flood-affected areas in Aceh Tamiang, reinforcing the urgency of housing development. He emphasized that beyond shelter, Danantara is also helping provide essential facilities such as community health centers and hospitals, recognizing that recovery extends beyond physical structures to overall well-being.
Building Hope Beyond Infrastructure
Danantara stated that the initial 500 units are targeted for completion by the end of December 2025, with early occupancy planned for early 2026. The initiative aims not only to rebuild homes but also to restore confidence and social stability among displaced families as they begin to rebuild their lives.
Advancing the Indonesian Hajj Village Vision
Beyond domestic recovery, Rosan also reported progress on the Indonesian Hajj Village in Mecca. President Prabowo’s diplomatic engagement has secured full support from the Saudi government, following direct communication with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on December 8, 2025. The project includes the acquisition of a hotel and a five-hectare land parcel in the Thakher area, approximately 2.5 kilometers from Masjid al-Haram.
Strategic Location and Long-Term Benefits
The Saudi government is also constructing a tunnel bridge connecting the area to Masjid al-Haram, enhancing accessibility for pilgrims. Danantara is additionally participating in land auctions in Western Hindawiyah, further expanding options for Indonesian pilgrim accommodations close to the holy site.
