S$1 million contribution strengthens public fundraising and urgent civilian aid efforts

Amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian strain, Singapore has stepped forward with fresh funding to reinforce aid delivery to civilians affected by the war in Gaza.

Government Announces New Seed Funding
The Singapore government will contribute S$1 million in seed funding to support public fundraising efforts for humanitarian assistance in Gaza, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Dec. 20.

Funds Distributed to Four Aid Organizations

The funding will be equally disbursed to four Singapore-based humanitarian organizations: the Singapore Red Cross, Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation, Humanity Matters, and Mercy Relief, all of which are actively engaged in relief operations.

Focus on Essential Humanitarian Needs
According to MFA, the funds will support water, sanitation, hygiene, food supplies, and other essential services as civilians in Gaza continue to face severe shortages and infrastructure damage.

Eleventh Tranche Since October 2023

This contribution marks Singapore’s eleventh tranche of humanitarian assistance since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in October 2023, bringing total aid provided to affected civilians to over S$25 million.

Continued Collaboration With Regional Partners
MFA stated that Singapore will continue working closely with regional partners and non-governmental organizations in Singapore to respond to pressing humanitarian needs and ensure aid reaches those most affected.

Call to Maintain Ceasefire and Aid Access
The ministry reiterated its call for all parties involved to facilitate swift and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, stressing the importance of maintaining the current ceasefire.

Reconstruction and Long-Term Recovery
“It is vital to maintain the current ceasefire and to make progress towards the next phase to allow for the reconstruction of Gaza,” MFA said, highlighting the link between stability, humanitarian access, and long-term recovery.

Singapore’s continued humanitarian contributions reflect a broader regional responsibility to uphold international humanitarian principles. For both Indonesians and Singaporeans, the move underscores the importance of diplomacy, collective action, and sustained aid in addressing humanitarian crises beyond national borders.
