Police revisit October homicide site as Indonesian suspect faces capital charges in Singapore.
Singapore police brought a murder suspect back to a Chinatown hotel to retrace the events of a deadly October incident that claimed the life of his wife. The move marks a critical step in investigations into one of Singapore’s most serious cases of the year.
Police Bring Suspect Back to Crime Scene
An Indonesian man accused of killing his wife in a Singapore hotel room was escorted back to the crime scene on December 3. The suspect, 41-year-old Salehuddin, was brought to the Capri by Fraser China Square hotel on South Bridge Road, where the alleged murder took place on October 24.
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to official charge sheets, the victim, Ms Nurdia Rahmah Rery, was killed in Room 703 between 3am and 5am. Police officers later found her lying motionless in the room after the suspect turned himself in at the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre, admitting he had taken her life.
Police Escort and Scene Reconstruction
Salehuddin arrived at the hotel at 9.15am, flanked by four officers and an interpreter. The basement carpark had been cordoned off, with additional officers securing the area. Handcuffed and in leg restraints, he was led through a service lift to the seventh floor for investigative procedures.
Restricted Access for Media
Media representatives were not permitted inside the hotel during the reconstruction. After approximately two hours of questioning, the suspect was escorted back to the police van at 11.15am and returned to remand.
Rising Murder Cases in 2025
So far, Singapore has recorded seven murders in 2025, with five occurring in the second half of the year. The Chinatown hotel case has drawn significant attention due to its severity and the cross-border nature involving an Indonesian couple.
Potential Penalties Under Singapore Law
If convicted of murder, Salehuddin faces the death penalty, in accordance with Singapore’s strict capital punishment framework for intentional homicide.
This case underscores the seriousness with which Singapore treats violent crime and the meticulous nature of its investigative process. As the case proceeds, it will continue to draw attention among Indonesians and Singaporeans, particularly due to the tragic circumstances and the implications for cross-border communities living or traveling in the city.
