Police roll out security measures as both nations’ leaders convene for key bilateral talks

Singapore will host the 12th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat on December 4, bringing heightened security measures around The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The annual meeting remains a crucial diplomatic platform, and authorities have announced temporary road closures and airspace restrictions to ensure safety throughout the event.

A Major Bilateral Event Returns to Singapore
The 12th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat will take place on December 4 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The annual retreat is a longstanding mechanism for both governments to resolve bilateral issues and identify new areas of cooperation. Earlier this year on January 6 and 7, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya to advance discussions on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

Road Closures for Security
To facilitate the event, the Singapore Police Force announced several road and lane closures from 10 p.m. on December 3 until 11.59 p.m. on December 4. Motorists and commuters should plan alternative routes as the following areas will be inaccessible during this period:

– Temasek Avenue between Raffles Avenue and Raffles Boulevard

– Right two lanes of Raffles Boulevard towards Republic Boulevard between lamp posts 12F and 19F

– Extreme right lane of Raffles Avenue towards Stamford Road between lamp post 3 and Bayfront Avenue

– Right two lanes of Raffles Avenue towards Stamford Road between Bayfront Avenue and lamp post 14F

Enhanced Safety Checks Around the Venue
Authorities will conduct security checks in the vicinity of The Ritz-Carlton throughout the retreat. The police have urged the public to comply fully with all instructions, stressing that non-compliance will be dealt with firmly according to the law.

Temporary Airspace Restrictions on Dec 4
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore will impose a temporary restricted area above the hotel from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on December 4. During this period, all aerial activities are prohibited. This includes flying kites, operating drones, and any other unmanned aircraft activity in or into the restricted zone.

Penalties for Violations
Flying unmanned aircraft or conducting any aerial activity within the restricted area is a punishable offence. First-time offenders may face fines of up to 20,000 SGD. The police reiterated that such rules are essential to maintain the safety and integrity of high-level events involving foreign dignitaries.

Where to Check Restricted Zones
Members of the public are encouraged to refer to OneMap.sg or the OneMap mobile app for updated information on no-fly zones and areas requiring permits for aerial activities. These resources are frequently updated and provide real-time guidance for safe operation of drones and other equipment.
