Shocking case in Batam exposes child abuse within family, prompting calls for vigilance and justice
A 45-year-old man in Sagulung, Batam, has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting his own daughter, a middle school student. The disturbing case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for community vigilance against child abuse.
Case Uncovered Through School Counselor
The case came to light when the 14-year-old victim, identified as NAN, confided in her school’s guidance counselor about repeated abuse by her father, MK. The counselor immediately informed the school authorities, who then coordinated with the Batam City Women and Child Protection Unit (UPTD PPA) to ensure psychological support and report the case to the Sagulung Police.
Swift Police Action
Following the report, officers from the Sagulung Police, led by Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Iptu Anwar Aris, moved quickly. MK was arrested at his residence in the Citra Laguna Hills housing complex, Tembesi, on Friday afternoon, October 17, 2025, around 3:00 PM. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his crimes.
Key Evidence and Confession
Police seized several pieces of evidence, including the victim’s clothing, a mobile phone, and video documentation believed to be related to the assault. “The act committed by the perpetrator is a serious violation of both law and morality. We will ensure the legal process runs transparently and professionally,” said Iptu Anwar in an official statement on October 21, 2025.

Victim Receives Psychological Support
Authorities have confirmed that the victim is now under full care and psychological assistance from UPTD PPA. A medical examination (visum et repertum) has also been conducted to strengthen the investigation. Police are coordinating with prosecutors to expedite the case file submission. “Our top priority is the safety and recovery of the victim, who is still a minor and has suffered severe trauma,” added Iptu Anwar.
Legal Consequences for the Perpetrator
MK is being charged under Article 81 paragraphs (1) and (3), and Article 82 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Law No. 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection. If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
Police Call for Community Awareness
In response to the case, Sagulung Police urged the public to be more alert to signs of abuse within their communities. “If you witness or suspect violence or sexual assault against children, report it immediately to the nearest police station or through the Polri emergency hotline at 110. Early reporting can prevent more victims and ensure justice,” Iptu Anwar emphasized.
This shocking case in Batam highlights the urgent need for family awareness, open communication in schools, and stronger protection mechanisms for children. For communities in Indonesia and Singapore alike, it serves as a stark reminder that vigilance, education, and early intervention are key to breaking the silence around child abuse.
