The Indonesian president receives a last-minute invitation to join world leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh for renewed Gaza peace efforts.
President Prabowo Subianto departed for Egypt on Sunday night (October 12, 2025) to attend the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. The high-level meeting aims to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza and strengthen regional stability in the Middle East.
A Sudden but Significant Invitation
According to Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, President Prabowo received a last-minute special invitation to participate in the Gaza Peace Summit. “The President informed us that he received the invitation yesterday. It was quite sudden, but it sincerely requested his presence,” Prasetyo said during a press briefing on Sunday evening.
The invitation, he added, came as part of the ongoing peace negotiations that world leaders hope will bring lasting peace to Palestine, especially in Gaza. Despite the short notice, Prabowo immediately confirmed his attendance, signaling Indonesia’s active role in supporting global peace initiatives.
Global Push for Peace in Gaza
The summit, scheduled for Monday (October 13, 2025), gathers key international leaders to address the humanitarian crisis and find a sustainable solution to the Gaza conflict. According to Antara News, the meeting aligns with US President Donald Trump’s broader vision to secure peace and stability across the Middle East.
Earlier, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of his proposed 20-point plan, which includes a prisoner exchange—releasing all Israeli hostages in Gaza in return for about 2,000 Palestinian detainees—and a gradual Israeli troop withdrawal beginning October 10, 2025, at noon local time.
Indonesia’s Readiness to Support Peacekeeping
Minister Prasetyo confirmed that Indonesia is prepared to send up to 20,000 troops to Palestine if requested by the United Nations, reaffirming President Prabowo’s earlier commitment during the UN General Assembly.
“Indonesia has been asked to help deploy peacekeeping forces,” Prasetyo said. “The Vice Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has already begun preparations to ensure that we’re ready when needed.”
This move highlights Indonesia’s long-standing support for Palestinian independence and peace, continuing its historical role as a non-aligned nation advocating for global justice.

Diplomatic Momentum and Regional Implications
The Sharm el-Sheikh summit represents renewed momentum in Middle East diplomacy after months of escalating violence in Gaza. For Indonesia, Prabowo’s participation marks a significant moment in projecting Jakarta’s diplomatic presence beyond Southeast Asia.
Analysts note that Indonesia’s involvement—especially its willingness to contribute peacekeeping forces—underscores its growing recognition as a credible actor in international conflict resolution.
President Prabowo’s attendance at the Gaza Peace Summit symbolizes Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and solidarity with Palestine. As the Middle East inches closer to a fragile ceasefire, Jakarta’s readiness to deploy peacekeeping troops signals a proactive and principled foreign policy stance—one that resonates not only with Indonesians but also with regional partners like Singapore and Malaysia seeking a stable and cooperative future in global diplomacy.
