Japfa’s latest live chicken export marks Bintan’s rise as Indonesia’s new gateway for agri-trade and regional food security.
Indonesia’s poultry industry has reached another milestone as Japfa Group resumed live chicken exports to Singapore through Sri Payung Port in Tanjungpinang on October 6, 2025. The shipment, consisting of more than 28,500 live birds, signals the growing role of Bintan as a future hub for Indonesia’s livestock exports and a strategic player in Riau Islands’ maritime economy.
A Milestone for Indonesia’s Poultry Industry
The export of 28,512 live chickens — each weighing between 1.8 and 2.2 kilograms — was managed by PT Indojaya Agrinusa, a subsidiary of Japfa Group. The chickens, sourced from the company’s farms in Gunung Kijang, Bintan, were shipped using six specialized containers to ensure welfare standards and freshness during transit.
This latest shipment marks the seventh export since Indonesia reopened its poultry trade with Singapore and the second in 2025, underscoring the stability and competitiveness of Indonesia’s poultry supply chain.
Bintan: Emerging Export Gateway
While the current shipments depart from Sri Payung Port, Tanjungpinang, Japfa has proposed shifting future operations to Kota Segara Port in Tanjunguban, Bintan. The move aims to cut travel time to Singapore from 10 hours to just 7, reducing logistics costs and boosting trade efficiency.
According to Japfa’s Vice President for Feed Operations Sumatera, Anwar Tandiono (Acai), Bintan’s infrastructure potential positions it as an ideal future export point. “We’ve requested that Kota Segara be developed as an export port, and discussions are already underway,” he said.
Simon Pang, Director of Regent Group, Japfa’s logistics partner, confirmed investment plans for export facilities at Kota Segara. “We’re ready to build the infrastructure this year so not all shipments must go through Tanjungpinang,” he noted.
Government Endorsement and Support
The export ceremony was attended by Governor of the Riau Islands (Kepri) Ansar Ahmad and Director-General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Agung Suganda, both of whom expressed strong support for Bintan’s development as a poultry export hub.
Governor Ansar highlighted Bintan’s growing international trade potential:
“Bintan has proven itself as a gateway for Indonesia’s agri-exports. This is not just about business — it’s about empowering local economies and showing that our farmers can compete globally.”
Representing Bupati Bintan Roby Kurniawan, Assistant for Economic Affairs Mohammad Panca Azdigoena echoed this sentiment, calling the export a historic milestone for the region.
“No other region in Indonesia exports live poultry abroad. This is tangible proof that Bintan is ready to compete on the global stage,” he said.
Economic and Regional Impact
The partnership between Japfa, local government agencies, and logistics providers has not only expanded export routes but also attracted new investment opportunities in infrastructure, feed production, and cold-chain systems.
The Ministry of Agriculture noted that such exports support Indonesia’s long-term goals for food security, economic diversification, and maritime connectivity. With continued improvements in port facilities and regulatory processes, Bintan is poised to become a key maritime export hub for animal-based products.
