32-year-old suspect arrested after violent attack leaves father injured and family property destroyed

Police in Muar have arrested a 32-year-old unemployed man who allegedly stabbed his 70-year-old father before torching the family home, car, and motorcycle, causing losses estimated at up to RM150,000.

Violent Attack in Kampung Tengah

The incident occurred around 9.43am on Wednesday in Kampung Tengah, Jalan Bakri, Muar. According to police, the suspect allegedly struck his father with a cane before stabbing him with a knife, inflicting severe injuries. The victim was rushed to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar for treatment.

Property Torched After Assault

Following the assault, the suspect allegedly set the family’s home on fire. A car and a motorcycle were also destroyed, with total damages estimated between RM100,000 and RM150,000. The suspect himself sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Suspect Tested Positive for Methamphetamine

Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, confirmed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine abuse. Police also believe he may be suffering from mental health issues.

Ongoing Investigation

The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire and Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. Both offenses carry heavy penalties, reflecting the seriousness of the crime.

Police Advisory to the Public

ACP Raiz Mukhliz urged the public to remain vigilant and monitor family members for signs of drug abuse, noting that substance misuse often escalates into violent and tragic outcomes.

The Muar case highlights the destructive intersection of drug abuse, mental health instability, and domestic violence. Beyond the immediate tragedy, it underscores the urgent need for stronger preventive measures, public awareness, and support systems to address methamphetamine use in Malaysian communities.
