Indonesia’s DPR approves BP Batam’s Rp2.44 trillion 2026 budget to drive growth and infrastructure.

Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) has approved a Rp2.44 trillion (≈ SGD195 million) budget for the Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) in 2026, marking a major step toward strengthening infrastructure and sustainable economic growth.

DPR Approves Strategic Allocation

The decision was finalized during a Working Meeting (RDP) with Commission VI DPR RI at the Nusantara I Building in Jakarta on September 15, 2025. Chaired by Deputy Chairman Andre Rosiade, the meeting concluded with consensus to allocate Rp2.44 trillion for BP Batam’s 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKA). The approval follows a joint directive issued by Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance and Bappenas on July 24, 2025.

Focus on National Policy and Local Growth

Andre Rosiade emphasized that the approved budget supports national priorities under Asta Cita while accelerating Batam’s regional development. “This allocation must drive progress and improve community welfare,” he stated, highlighting Batam’s pivotal role as a regional economic hub.

BP Batam’s Development Priorities

BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad detailed that the funds will focus on infrastructure upgrades, economic empowerment, and public health services. Complementing this, a Rp2.88 trillion Rupiah Murni (RM) allocation will be directed toward land, sea, and air connectivity as well as environmental management within the Batam Free Trade and Free Port Zone (KPBPB).

Presidential Mandate on Infrastructure First

President Prabowo Subianto has underscored the need for infrastructure-first development to unlock Batam’s economic potential. Amsakar reiterated this directive, noting that strong connectivity is essential for investment growth, trade expansion, and community welfare.

Strengthening BP Batam’s Role

Amsakar also stressed that the 2026 budget will enhance BP Batam’s organizational performance, ensuring efficiency and accountability in managing the free trade zone. He highlighted a commitment to developing Batam into a modern and inclusive economic zone with global competitiveness.

Regional Significance for Indonesia and Singapore

Batam’s strategic location near Singapore makes its development critical for regional trade and logistics. Improved infrastructure and connectivity are expected to strengthen Batam’s role as a gateway for investment, benefiting both Indonesian and Singaporean stakeholders in trade, industry, and maritime services.

The approval of BP Batam’s Rp2.44 trillion 2026 budget represents more than financial allocation—it reflects Indonesia’s broader ambition to position Batam as a leading economic hub in Southeast Asia. With priorities on infrastructure, investment, and sustainability, this move is set to enhance regional prosperity and fortify Batam’s role in Indonesia-Singapore economic ties.
