Toyota flipped on its side in midnight crash as police uncover drugs and e-vaporisers

A midnight car crash in Hougang took a shocking turn when both drivers were arrested after police uncovered suspected drugs and dozens of e-vaporisers, including those laced with controlled substances.

Midnight Crash at Hougang Avenue 2

The incident happened just after midnight on August 30 at 120 Hougang Avenue 2, near a petrol kiosk. Witnesses reported that a grey Toyota slammed into a stationary Mazda, causing the Toyota to flip onto its side.

A petrol kiosk attendant, 64-year-old Mr Isa, rushed to help and pulled the Toyota driver out of the overturned vehicle. The man appeared uninjured and bizarrely asked for the nearest toilet instead of medical attention.

Suspicious Behavior from Mazda Driver

Eyewitnesses said the 28-year-old Mazda driver ran towards nearby housing blocks immediately after the crash. One resident, Mr Chew, recounted that the man looked as though he was trying to dispose of something. He later returned to the scene.

Police Uncover Drugs and Vapes

When Traffic Police searched the 40-year-old Toyota driver, they found a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be a controlled drug. He was arrested on the spot for suspected drug-related offences.

Roughly 40 minutes later, officers also arrested the Mazda driver after discovering a cream-colored backpack filled with dozens of e-vaporisers, including those reportedly laced with etomidate (Kpods) — a substance set to be classified as a Class C controlled drug starting September 1.

Arrests and Charges

Toyota driver (40): Arrested for suspected drug-related offences.

Mazda driver (28): Arrested for drink-driving and suspected drug-related offences. Vapes referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

Both cases have been handed to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

SCDF Response

Two Singapore Civil Defence Force ambulances arrived at the scene. One individual was assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital.

What began as a routine traffic accident in Hougang quickly escalated into a major drug-related case involving controlled substances and illegal vapes. The arrests highlight Singapore’s strict stance on drug and vape offences, with the Central Narcotics Bureau now taking over the investigation. The case serves as a reminder of the country’s zero-tolerance approach to drugs and the dangers of illicit vaping products.
