A 69-year-old Singaporean was discovered lifeless at his Batam residence after suffering past strokes.

A Singaporean expatriate was found dead in his upscale Batam home on the night of August 6, 2025. Authorities cite medical complications as a likely factor.

Discovery in a Quiet Batam Neighborhood

The deceased, identified only by the name Suki, aged 69, was discovered in his home located at Papa Mama Residence, Blok F4 No. 12, Kelurahan Belian, Batam Kota. The body was found by authorities on Wednesday night, drawing attention from both local residents and officials due to Suki’s status as a foreign national.

Local law enforcement quickly secured the scene and notified the relevant agencies to proceed with the next steps.

Health History Confirmed

According to statements from Batam police, Suki had a documented history of strokes. Investigators at the scene discovered medical records indicating ongoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore.

“Yes, the deceased had a known history of stroke. We found documents confirming his treatment in Singapore,” confirmed one officer present during the initial investigation.

Multiteam Evacuation Effort

Following the discovery, a combined team from several Indonesian law enforcement units, including the Foreigners Oversight Team (POA) of Polresta Barelang, Batam Kota Police, and Inafis (Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System) mobilized to carry out evacuation procedures.

Their coordinated efforts ensured that protocol was followed strictly due to the international status of the deceased.

Autopsy and Next Steps

Suki’s body was transported to Bhayangkara Police Hospital, Polda Kepri, for further forensic examination. The hospital will conduct a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, although early indications suggest no signs of foul play.

Authorities have yet to confirm when the body will be released or repatriated.

Regional Impact and Legal Protocols

Cases involving foreign nationals in Indonesia typically trigger a multi-agency response. For both Singapore and Indonesia, such incidents reinforce the importance of cross-border medical and legal cooperation, particularly in regions like Batam, which hosts a large number of Singaporean retirees and property owners.

Officials are likely to notify the Singaporean embassy to assist in consular support and next-of-kin coordination.

This unfortunate incident highlights the vulnerability of aging expatriates living alone abroad. With Batam continuing to attract Singaporean residents due to its proximity and affordability, clear medical documentation and rapid emergency response remain vital for both communities.
