BP Batam’s port sector sees 16% revenue growth, driven by cargo volume and ship calls
Batam’s port performance surged in the first half of 2025, with state revenue hitting Rp219.75 billion. Strategic operations and rising cargo flows have turned Batam into a logistics powerhouse aligned with national growth goals.
Revenue Growth Driven by Ship and Cargo Surge
BP Batam recorded Rp219.75 billion in Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) from port operations between January and June 2025—up 16% from Rp189 billion in the same period last year. This amount represents 55% of its annual target of Rp401.86 billion, outpacing 2024’s halfway achievement of 48%. The robust financials highlight Batam’s rising role as a strategic logistics hub in the region.
Operational Indicators Show Positive Trends
Port traffic showed significant expansion, with 54,876 total vessel calls in H1 2025—a 15% increase year-on-year. This includes:
- 14,461 cargo vessel calls
- 40,415 passenger vessel calls
Gross tonnage also grew by 18%, totaling 34.88 million GT. Cargo vessels accounted for 25.03 million GT, while passenger vessels contributed 9.85 million GT.
Container Volume Reaches Nearly 360,000 TEUs

Container handling rose 15% year-on-year to 359,944 TEUs. Of this, international trade—exports and imports—made up 273,004 TEUs, marking an 18% increase. Domestic container throughput also climbed 6%, from 82,300 to 86,940 TEUs. These figures underscore Batam’s expanding relevance in both global and inter-island shipping.
General Cargo and Passenger Movement Up
General cargo volume increased by 12% to 5.43 million tons. Meanwhile, ferry terminals saw 4.65 million passengers in the first six months of 2025, an 8% rise over the same period in 2024. This includes 2.57 million passengers at the international terminal and 2.08 million at the domestic terminal—indicating a steady rebound in mobility and tourism.
Government Applauds Strategic Port Management
Benny Syahroni, Director of Port Management at BP Batam, attributed the success to “collective teamwork and strengthened digital services.” Ruslan Aspan, Deputy for Port and Airport Management, praised the progress, stating that ports serve as “economic engines that drive trade and mobility.” The performance aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for Batam to be a key contributor to national economic targets.
Batam’s ports are playing a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economic ascent, offering efficient infrastructure and seamless logistics that benefit not only the nation but also cross-border trade with Singapore. The continued rise in container volumes, ship traffic, and revenue reflects a thriving maritime gateway crucial to regional connectivity and growth.
