Vera Limardjo House of Mercy offers free meals, shelter, and healthcare to underserved residents.
The Batam City Government has reinforced its commitment to tackling social challenges with the inauguration of the Vera Limardjo House of Mercy (VLHoM) on July 29, 2025.
Comprehensive Support for the Vulnerable
Located at Botania Garden Stage 7, VLHoM hosts three key units under the Cahaya Obor Berkat Foundation:
– Dapur Dhuafa, providing free meals for the needy
– Rumah Singgah, offering temporary shelter
– Community Health Clinic, delivering accessible healthcare
These facilities aim to assist marginalized groups lacking access to basic needs and medical services.

A Collaborative Approach to Social Care
Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad inaugurated the center, emphasizing that social issues require joint efforts beyond government capacity. “Marginalized communities cannot be left alone. This initiative shows how collaboration can make a real difference,” he said.
Government Support for Empowerment
The mayor assured that the city will support programs with strong empowerment plans, including assistance with permits and facilitation. “When organizations like Cahaya Obor Berkat have solid business plans, we are ready to back them because empowerment is a priority,” Amsakar added.
Humanitarian Commitment Recognized
Amsakar praised the foundation’s efforts, describing VLHoM as a reflection of compassion and humanity. He noted that courage to serve others is a true measure of value, calling for ongoing synergy between government, NGOs, and society.
Facility Opening Marks Milestone
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra and local leaders, featured a ribbon-cutting and plaque signing. The event also highlighted the city’s dedication to building inclusive, sustainable social programs.
A Center for Hope and Dignity
Batam’s government hopes VLHoM will become a humanitarian hub, providing dignified services and inspiring more initiatives to address social problems. Citizens are encouraged to participate actively in these efforts.
The launch of VLHoM signals a new chapter in Batam’s approach to social welfare, offering vital services to marginalized communities through collaboration and shared responsibility. This model underscores the city’s vision for a more inclusive and compassionate society.
