20-year-old woman suffers neck wound in knife attack by ex-boyfriend, now in police custody

A 21-year-old foreign man has been arrested for attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife at a private university in Subang Jaya, Selangor. The victim, also a foreign national, sustained serious injuries to her neck and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Shocking Attack at Subang Jaya Campus

The violent incident unfolded around 6:30pm on July 14, 2025, at an unnamed private university in Subang Jaya. Police were alerted after reports of a woman being assaulted with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found the 20-year-old woman with a deep slash wound on the left side of her neck.

According to Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, the victim was immediately transported to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM). She was admitted to the Red Zone, indicating a critical but stable condition.

Suspect Identified as Former Partner

Police quickly identified and apprehended the suspect—a 21-year-old man and former boyfriend of the victim. His nationality, like the victim’s, has not been disclosed but both are confirmed to be foreigners.

“The motive behind the attack is still under investigation,” said Wan Azlan. Authorities are currently gathering more evidence and statements from witnesses to determine what led to the brutal confrontation.

Legal Proceedings Underway

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. If found guilty, the suspect could face:

  • Up to 10 years in jail
  • A fine, or
  • Caning, or any combination of these penalties

This section of the law emphasizes Malaysia’s strict stance against violent personal assaults, especially those involving weapons.

Appeal for Public Assistance

Police have appealed to the public for any information that could aid the investigation.
Wan Azlan urged anyone with details to contact:

  • Subang Jaya district control centre: 03-78627100
  • Investigating officer Insp Fadizah Ajamin: 019-8582166

Authorities assured that the identity of any informant would be kept confidential to ensure public cooperation and safety.

Campus Safety and Ongoing Investigation

The name of the university involved has not been disclosed, likely to protect the identities of the victim and students. However, the attack raises serious concerns about safety measures within campus environments, especially involving personal disputes that escalate into violence.

Police continue to investigate whether there were prior threats or reported altercations between the couple. Updates on the case are expected as more facts emerge.

The knife attack in Subang Jaya once again highlights the growing concern over interpersonal violence among youth, particularly within university settings. For regional observers in Indonesia and Singapore, the case underscores the need for early intervention in toxic relationships and improved campus security protocols for international students.
