Digital marketer sentenced after police uncover 285 child sexual abuse videos, including those featuring infants.
A Singaporean man, described as a “one-man distribution hub” of child sexual abuse content, has been sentenced to jail and caning after authorities found hundreds of explicit videos involving children, including infants, in his possession. The case highlights the ongoing battle against online child exploitation and the severe penalties imposed by Singapore’s judicial system.
Raid Uncovers Disturbing Collection
On May 12, 2022, Singapore police raided the home of Danial Abdul Rahman, a 31-year-old digital marketer. The operation followed a tip-off regarding his online activities. Authorities seized his devices and discovered 285 videos depicting child sexual abuse, involving 414 children—383 of whom were identifiable. Some videos featured infants below a year old subjected to degrading acts, with the longest clip lasting nearly two hours.
Years of Online Distribution
Investigations revealed that Danial’s criminal activities spanned at least four years, from 2018 to March 2022. He began by searching for obscene content on Tumblr in 2017, later accessing the dark web and joining Telegram channels where child abuse material was shared. He stored these files on Google Drive and, in 2018, created a Twitter account (now X) to post and retweet such content. His account amassed up to 500 followers, some of whom privately requested child abuse material. Danial used the dark web to fulfill these requests, sharing files via direct messages or Google Drive links.
Suspension and Continued Offenses
After Twitter suspended his account in May 2021, Danial continued to receive and fulfill requests for child sexual abuse material through Telegram. He distributed content to multiple users, including at least five on Twitter, and did not receive any payment for his actions. His persistent activity contributed to the circulation of illegal material and fueled demand among other offenders.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
On July 14, 2025, Danial pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material for the purpose of distribution. The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Benjamin Low, described his conduct as “reprehensible in the highest degree” and sought a sentence of up to 39 months’ jail and six strokes of the cane. The court sentenced Danial to three years and one month in jail and four strokes of the cane. A second charge was considered during sentencing.
Legal and Social Impact

Under Singaporean law, possessing child sexual abuse material for distribution carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, and caning. The case underscores Singapore’s uncompromising stance on child exploitation crimes. The severity of the punishment reflects the country’s commitment to deterring similar offenses and protecting vulnerable children from harm.
Broader Implications for the Region
This case sends a strong message to both Singaporeans and Indonesians about the risks and consequences of engaging in or facilitating online child exploitation. It highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement and international cooperation in combating digital crimes that transcend borders. The conviction serves as a warning to offenders and a call for greater public awareness and reporting of such heinous acts.
The sentencing of Danial Abdul Rahman demonstrates Singapore’s zero-tolerance approach to child sexual abuse and the distribution of exploitative content online. The case not only reinforces the need for robust legal frameworks but also calls for heightened vigilance across Southeast Asia to protect children from digital predators and ensure justice for victims.
