Police crackdown reveals hidden vice operations behind massage parlours in residential HDB estate
Four women were arrested in Yishun on June 30 after police uncovered illicit sexual services being offered under the cover of massage parlours. This action was part of a broader seven-week islandwide anti-vice operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Hidden Vice Behind Massage Parlours
On June 30, police conducted simultaneous raids on two massage parlours situated on the ground floor of a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block in Yishun. The operation, led by the Woodlands Police Division, resulted in the arrest of three women at the establishments and a fourth at another undisclosed location in Yishun.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Chi Chong, the suspects—aged 23 to 35—were allegedly providing sexual services under the pretense of legitimate massage therapy. Among the arrested were a Singapore Permanent Resident and two foreign nationals. The arrests highlight growing concerns over vice activities operating discreetly within residential communities.
Scenes From the Raids
At the first outlet, reporters observed a modest setup with massage beds, couches, and three private rooms. Female employees appeared tense as they awaited questioning, while two male customers were seen cooperating with police officers. Appointment logs and vaping devices were also discovered during the operation.

The second parlour, described as more high-end, spanned two floors with ten private rooms, each equipped with showers and wooden flooring. A UV inspection revealed questionable stains in one room, suggesting possible evidence of sexual activity. According to residents, the establishment frequently stayed open beyond listed hours, arousing suspicion
Residents Concerned Over Illicit Activity
Local resident Ang, 25, who has lived in the neighborhood her whole life, expressed concern over the impact of such vice operations in family-centric areas. “There were a lot of women going in and out late at night,” she noted. One of the massage outlets had only recently opened, while the other had been operating for several years.
Nationwide Crackdown On Vice
The Yishun raid was part of a broader multi-agency crackdown from May 20 to July 7, targeting illegal activities in areas such as Desker Road, Balestier, Geylang, Jurong East, and Joo Chiat. Spearheaded by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Specialised Crime Branch, the operation involved the seven Police Land Divisions, ICA, CNB, SCDF, HSA, Singapore Customs, and LTA.

Across the seven weeks, authorities arrested 2 men and 316 women, aged 19 to 63, for vice-related offenses. In total, 1,401 men and 1,044 women aged between 15 and 84 are being investigated for various crimes. Police emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in upholding Singapore’s strict legal framework.
Firm Stance From Authorities
Senior Assistant Commissioner Gregory Tan stated that the extensive enforcement “exemplifies the police’s commitment to public security.” He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against criminal behavior, especially those hidden behind seemingly legal businesses.
The Yishun raids and broader enforcement campaign reflect Singapore’s unyielding efforts to safeguard communities from vice activities. For Indonesians and others observing the situation, this underscores the importance of proactive law enforcement and vigilance in preserving the integrity of shared residential spaces across Southeast Asia.
