Karimun Prosecutors Destroy Evidence from 77 Criminal Cases Including Narcotics and Smuggled Goods

Karimun District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Karimun) has destroyed massive amounts of criminal evidence, including narcotics and over 1.5 million illegal cigarettes, from 77 cases concluded between January and June 2025.

Massive Seizure from 77 Criminal Case

On July 2, 2025, the Karimun Prosecutor’s Office destroyed a large cache of criminal evidence linked to 77 cases—74 from general crimes and 3 from special crimes. The event took place at the Kejari office courtyard and was attended by key regional leaders from Forkopimda Karimun.

Among the items destroyed were:

  • 260.47 grams of crystal meth (sabu),
  • 5.35 grams of ecstasy,
  • 0.22 grams of marijuana,
  • 1,525,680 sticks of illegal cigarettes,
  • second-hand clothing,
  • smartphones, and other confiscated materials.

Illegal Cigarettes and Narcotics Dominated Seizures

The illegal cigarettes, seized under customs violations, were among the most significant items. Smuggled through multiple channels and lacking tax stamps, these products cost the state substantial revenue losses.

The narcotics cases, predominantly involving methamphetamine, represent the majority of the 44 drug-related cases processed. Many of these cases involved sensitive issues, including sexual offenses and cases involving minors.

According to Kejari Karimun Chief Dr. Priyambudi, “This destruction is part of the final phase of legal proceedings—from police investigation to court rulings. These items are now officially forfeited and rendered valueless.”

Methods of Destruction Emphasized Finality

For drugs, the substances were boiled and mixed with disinfectants to eliminate their chemical potency. Illegal cigarettes and clothing were incinerated in a secure burn chamber to prevent any future circulation or misuse.

“The point is to ensure these items are completely destroyed and have no economic or illicit value left,” said Priyambudi.

This event sends a clear message of transparency in law enforcement and the state’s serious intent in eliminating crime-derived goods.

Supporting National Anti-Crime Agenda

The prosecutor’s office emphasized its alignment with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita program, which focuses on strengthening national law enforcement, particularly in narcotics and customs violations.

By publicly destroying evidence, Kejari Karimun reinforces public trust while demonstrating their operational efficiency and zero-tolerance policy toward drug crimes and smuggling networks.

Justice System Efficiency and Transparency

All destroyed evidence had reached final legal status, affirmed by the District Court, High Court, and Supreme Court of Indonesia. This ensures that no appeal processes were pending, underlining the completeness and legality of the destruction.

The action underscores the effectiveness of Indonesia’s criminal justice system in managing and concluding high-volume cases within six months—a notable achievement for regional law enforcement.

Kejari Karimun’s public destruction of over 1.5 million illegal cigarettes and hundreds of grams of narcotics not only marks the end of dozens of criminal trials but also reflects the government’s stern stance on crime. For communities in Indonesia and neighboring Singapore, especially those vulnerable to smuggling and narcotics trade, this operation is a strong reminder of the region’s commitment to law, order, and cross-border safety.
