A 43-year-old fisherman from Lingga found dead alone in his hotel room in Tanjungpinang
A quiet afternoon at Hotel Metro, Tanjungpinang, turned somber on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, when a hotel staff member discovered a male guest lifeless in his room. Police investigation is underway following the shocking discovery of drug packets near the body.
Mysterious Death at Hotel Metro
On July 1, 2025, a 43-year-old man identified as Azman was found dead in Room 204 on the second floor of Hotel Metro, located at Jalan Pelantar, Tanjungpinang. The discovery occurred around midday when hotel staff attempted to confirm his check-out status but received no response. Using a spare key, they entered the room and found him lying motionless on the bed.

Azman, a fisherman from Lingga, had been staying alone at the hotel since June 27. According to hotel employee Siti Rohma, the guest had not shown any signs of trouble during his stay. His death sent shockwaves through the hotel staff and fellow guests.
No Signs of Violence, Drugs Found
Police officers from the Tanjungpinang Kota precinct, led by Iptu Misyamsu Alson, were quick to arrive at the scene. An initial inspection by the Inafis team revealed no visible signs of violence or struggle on the victim’s body. However, officers discovered two packets of medicine branded “Kuda Arab” on the room’s table, raising concerns over possible drug consumption.
Alson confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. “The body has been taken to the hospital for a full autopsy. We’re awaiting the medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death,” he said.
A Calm Stay That Ended Tragically
Witnesses stated Azman appeared to be in good health during his stay and kept to himself. Dressed in black shorts and no shirt, he was found in a supine position. His identity was verified by local authorities, and his next of kin in Lingga have been notified.
Pending Autopsy Results
While foul play has not been ruled out, police are treating the case as a sudden death pending further medical findings. The presence of Kuda Arab-branded medication has prompted questions about its content and usage, which will also be examined in the ongoing investigation.

This incident has sparked concern over personal health safety and the accessibility of unregulated drugs. The death of a seemingly healthy individual under unexplained circumstances reminds Indonesians and Singaporeans alike of the importance of health monitoring, especially when traveling alone. The findings of the autopsy will be crucial in understanding what led to this quiet tragedy in a hotel room.
