33-year-old Singaporean arrested after authorities uncover S$65,000 worth of cannabis

Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested a 33-year-old man and seized over 2.7kg of cannabis in a MacPherson flat—some bearing designs of the popular toy character Labubu.

Cannabis Worth S$65K Found in MacPherson Raid

In a major drug bust, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized approximately 2,722g of cannabis from a residential unit near Balam Road in MacPherson on the evening of June 23, 2025. A 33-year-old Singaporean man was arrested at the scene for suspected drug trafficking offences.

According to CNB’s June 24 press release, the estimated street value of the seized cannabis exceeds S$65,000 and could potentially sustain the addiction of 390 users for a week. The operation forms part of Singapore’s ongoing crackdown on controlled substances.

‘Labubu’ Designs Found on Cannabis

Among the seized drugs were cannabis discs imprinted with Labubu, a character from the collectible toy universe popular among youth. While likely intended for branding or appeal, authorities emphasized that this stylized packaging does not diminish the seriousness of the offence.

Photographs released by CNB showed the discs laid out neatly, with the toy character’s recognizable features. This element of design, while visually striking, underscores concerns about cannabis being marketed in appealing forms that could mislead or attract younger audiences.

Heavy Penalties Under Singapore Law

CNB reiterated that cannabis is a Class A controlled drug under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) 1973. Trafficking, possessing, consuming, importing, or exporting cannabis is strictly illegal, with severe penalties.

Anyone convicted of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty. The law applies not only to direct actions but also to those who facilitate or assist in trafficking—even if the recipient is outside Singapore.

Mental Health and Public Safety Concerns

Authorities stressed the harmful effects of cannabis, noting its addictive nature and the potential to cause brain damage and severe mental health disorders. CNB’s statement reinforced the Singapore Government’s zero-tolerance stance on illicit drugs, citing their potential to destroy lives, families, and communities.

This public warning serves as a reminder amid growing global debates on drug legalisation. Singapore’s position remains firm: cannabis is not a harmless herb, but a dangerous substance with real consequences.

Investigations Ongoing

Investigations into the arrested man’s drug activities are still underway. CNB has not yet disclosed whether the suspect was operating alone or connected to a wider network. However, the sophistication of the packaging and scale of the operation suggest a deeper distribution system.

The public is urged to report suspected drug activities, reinforcing the collaborative nature of Singapore’s approach to narcotics enforcement.

This case illustrates Singapore’s strict anti-drug policy and the country’s commitment to upholding its legal framework against narcotics trafficking. It also raises concerns about the evolving presentation of illegal drugs in visually deceptive forms. The crackdown underscores a clear message for Southeast Asia: zero tolerance remains the policy, regardless of shifting global trends.
