A 70-year-old Singaporean was found decomposed in his Batam home after five days

A Singaporean man was found dead in a residential neighborhood in Batam, Indonesia, on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The discovery of his decomposed body has shocked the local community and prompted police investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Man Found After Days Missing

The victim, Kamal Bin Ahmad, a 70-year-old Singaporean, was discovered in a severely decomposed state inside his residence at Blok B1 No. 40, Perumahan Masyeba Gading Mas, Sekupang District, Batam. The body was found at approximately 4:00 PM local time, after a foul odor led residents and security personnel to alert the police.

Kamal was last seen nearly a week before his body was discovered. Neighbors had grown concerned due to his prolonged absence, eventually prompting the report to authorities.

Police Confirm Likely Natural Death

Kompol Benhur Gultom, Chief of Sekupang Police, confirmed that preliminary findings suggest Kamal had died around five days before his body was found. His body was discovered lying on the floor, dressed only in a floral shirt, with signs of advanced decomposition and skin discoloration.

Police investigators, supported by the Inafis team from Polresta Barelang, found no immediate evidence of foul play. Instead, the presence of various prescribed medications at the scene points to chronic medical issues.

Several medications, including Atorvastatin, Glucosamine Sulfate, Harnal Ocas, Dermasone, Panadol Extra, and Vitamin C, were discovered inside the home. According to Kapolsek Gultom, these findings are consistent with known complications such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.

Supporting this, Iptu Ridho Lubis, Chief of Criminal Investigation at Sekupang Police, noted that neighbors reported Kamal had long struggled with chronic health conditions and lived alone.

Autopsy Underway, Family Notified

Kamal’s body has been transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital for autopsy. Police are awaiting formal medical conclusions before ruling out other causes of death. In the meantime, authorities have contacted his wife in Singapore, requesting her presence in Batam to assist with further procedures.

Security personnel in the area confirmed that Kamal had become reclusive in recent weeks. His death, only discovered due to odor and neighbor concern, underscores the risks faced by elderly individuals living alone, especially abroad.

The death of Kamal Bin Ahmad is a somber reminder of the vulnerability faced by aging citizens—particularly those residing alone in foreign countries. For communities in Batam and Singapore, this case stresses the importance of neighborly vigilance, regular welfare checks, and stronger support systems for elderly expatriates.
