On Sunday morning, June 8, 2025, around 07:35 WIB, two suspects on a motorbike ambushed a 61-year-old woman identified as Tlk, who was jogging behind the Ruko Permata Regency Baloi area in Lubuk Baja, Batam. In the now-viral CCTV footage, one assailant dismounted and chased the woman for about 20 meters before violently pushing her to the ground and snatching her necklace.
Despite her attempts to flee, the woman was overpowered. Her daughter, Irene, expressed fear for her mother’s life, stating, “It wasn’t just about the necklace—my mother was dragged down and treated cruelly. Her life was in danger.”
No License Plate, No Mercy

The perpetrators were seen riding a Honda Beat without a visible license plate. After snatching the necklace, they fled toward the residential area of Permata Regency Baloi. The crime scene, described as a quiet area behind shop houses, was devoid of any businesses or bystanders at the time of the attack—making the crime easier to commit and harder to witness.
Local media reports noted that the path used was merely a service road surrounding the shop complex, adding to the vulnerability of pedestrians in the area.
Police Launch Investigation
Lubuk Baja Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, led by Iptu Noval Adimas Ardianto, confirmed the incident is under active investigation. The victim filed a police report around 17:30 WIB the same day. Authorities are now collecting evidence and victim testimony to identify the culprits.
“We are still in the process of gathering details and tracing the suspects. Please be patient,” said Iptu Noval.
Public Anger and Fear Grow
This incident has stirred widespread concern across Batam, especially among residents who exercise in the early morning hours. The violent nature of the crime, coupled with its location in a usually calm area, has triggered calls for improved street safety, increased patrols, and better surveillance systems in residential zones.
Surveillance and Community Action Needed
As videos of the attack continue to circulate online, citizens are urging local authorities to act swiftly. With suspects still at large and no arrests made as of June 10, 2025, pressure is mounting on law enforcement to ensure justice and prevent similar assaults.
The Lubuk Baja robbery is a grim reminder that safety remains a critical concern—even in seemingly peaceful neighborhoods. As Batam continues to develop, ensuring public security must remain a top priority. For both Indonesians and Singaporeans frequently visiting or investing in the area, the incident emphasizes the need for vigilance and stronger urban crime prevention measures.
