Strategic partnership with JTDC aims to build future-ready talent through premium pay and training
Sun Bus Tech is setting a new wage benchmark in Johor’s industrial sector with its RM4,000 starting salary initiative, part of a strategic partnership with the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) to elevate workforce quality and retention.
High-Impact MoU Signals Shift in Wage Standards

Sun Bus Tech and JTDC formalized a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a forward-looking talent programme targeting skilled manufacturing roles. The collaboration introduces a RM4,000 starting salary—well above market averages—to attract and retain skilled workers in Johor’s growing mobility and manufacturing sectors.
State Education and Information Committee chairman and JTDC head Aznan Tamin lauded the initiative, calling it a “model public-private partnership.” He said it reinforces Johor’s long-term ambitions to become a hub for high-value talent and industrial investment.
Bridging Training and Real-World Industry

The programme offers more than just wages. Sun Bus Tech’s CEO, Shayn Phang, emphasized the importance of nurturing talent through structured on-site training, tuition support, and career placement. Technical roles such as operators and technicians will be prioritized, with training conducted at the company’s advanced facility in Senai Airport City.
“We’re not just offering jobs—we’re building careers,” said Phang, adding that 40% of the 200 targeted positions are already filled. The remaining roles will be rolled out in phases via a screening and industrial immersion process.
Supporting the Johor-Singapore Growth Corridor
This initiative is a key component of the Johor Talent Development Council’s broader strategy under the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). JTDC aims to generate 20,000 high-income jobs, with phased implementation beginning this year to meet growing investor demands.
Aznan noted that interest from other companies is growing, and additional agreements are in the pipeline. This reinforces the belief that high wages, skills development, and cross-sector cooperation are vital to building Malaysia’s next-generation industrial economy.
Green Industry, Global Partnerships
Sun Bus Tech has rapidly emerged as a mobility sector leader. Within a year of launching, it has opened a solar-powered, green-rated HQ and partnered with Swiss engineering giant Carrosserie HESS AG. Its expertise in bus body manufacturing—especially electric vehicle fleets—underscores its future-facing industrial model.
The JTDC collaboration marks another milestone, positioning Sun Bus Tech as not just a manufacturer but a talent accelerator aligned with global sustainability and innovation trends.
Johor’s bold RM4,000 wage initiative is more than a salary bump—it’s a strategic shift that could reshape Southeast Asia’s skilled labour landscape. By investing in local talent with global partnerships and green infrastructure, Johor is signaling to Indonesian and Singaporean stakeholders that it’s serious about becoming a regional innovation and manufacturing powerhouse.
