Police arrest trio supplying party drugs near J&J Club, tracing links to Malaysia
Batam’s nightlife took a dark turn when police arrested three ecstasy dealers operating outside a popular entertainment venue. The bust reflects growing concerns about cross-border drug networks in urban party zones.
Nightclub Turns Crime Scene
In a targeted late-night operation, Polresta Barelang’s Narcotics Unit arrested three suspected ecstasy distributors—Evi Susanti, Ipan Firdaus, and Arik Subendik—outside J&J Club in Lubuk Baja’s Windsor Central Complex on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM WIB. The arrests followed intelligence tips about suspicious narcotics activity near the popular nightlife venue.
Police seized 18 ecstasy pills intended for distribution in Batam’s entertainment district. According to AKP Denny Langie, Head of the Narcotics Unit, the operation was swift and executed just as the suspects were preparing to deal in the parking area.

Tracing the Source: Malaysian Link
Preliminary investigations reveal the pills may have originated from Malaysia, hinting at yet another international link in Batam’s recurring drug cases. The suspects reportedly received the illicit substances through a courier or contact based abroad.
“There’s strong evidence the pills were sourced from Malaysia,” Denny confirmed on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. “We’re expanding our probe to uncover the larger network.”
Legal Repercussions and Next Steps
The three suspects now face charges under Articles 114(2), 112(2), and 132(1) of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009, which carry a minimum sentence of 6 years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment. These laws target not only possession but also distribution and conspiracy to traffic narcotics.
Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and are urging the public to help identify other potential actors in the network. Surveillance and undercover operations have reportedly increased around nightlife zones in Batam as part of a broader crackdown.
Community Cooperation Vital
Authorities have highlighted the essential role of public cooperation in narcotics control. The initial tip-off that led to the arrest came from a concerned citizen.
With Batam’s proximity to international borders and its thriving nightlife, police are treating the area as a high-risk zone for recreational drug trafficking, especially involving younger demographics.
A Warning to the Region
This case is another reminder of how international syndicates target Southeast Asia’s vibrant entertainment hotspots to circulate party drugs. For cities like Batam and neighboring Singapore, it underscores the urgency of regional collaboration and public awareness to keep recreational venues safe and clean from narcotics infiltration.
The arrest in Batam highlights the growing threat of cross-border drug trafficking in nightlife areas. Stronger community vigilance and regional cooperation are key to stopping the spread.
