Malaysia launches LIMA’25 with aerial feats and a firm call for regional stability.

The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25) kicked off with a bold statement—Malaysia is serious about strengthening regional peace through advanced defence readiness.

Global Participation, Strategic Partnerships

LIMA’25 features over 600 exhibitors from 60 countries, including defence giants from Europe, the United States, and Asia. This year’s edition emphasizes defence and commercial aerospace sectors, positioning Malaysia as a key hub for global military collaboration.

Malaysia’s Role in Regional Stability

PM Anwar underscored the importance of defence self-sufficiency amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. “Our neutrality is not passivity. We are committed to peace through strength and regional cooperation,” he stated.

Malaysia’s strategic positioning between the Indian Ocean and South China Sea further amplifies its role in maintaining maritime security, especially in areas vital to global trade and regional stability. LIMA’25 serves as a diplomatic and industrial bridge across ASEAN, drawing participation from regional powers including Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Economic and Technological Advancements

Beyond defence, LIMA’25 also showcases aerospace and maritime technologies that drive Malaysia’s economic and technological goals. This includes innovations in unmanned systems, sustainable aviation, and maritime surveillance.

A Message Of Peace Amid Tensions

As geopolitical tensions mount in the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific, LIMA’25 carries added symbolic weight. Prime Minister Anwar stated that Malaysia remains firm in its stance of non-alignment but proactive defence. He reiterated that while the nation is not interested in being part of great-power rivalries, it will not remain passive in defending its sovereignty and interests.

Malaysia’s participation in regional dialogues like the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) complements events like LIMA, which serve as platforms to express regional solidarity through peaceful engagement.

Regional Relevance For Neighbours

LIMA’25’s strategic vision has ripple effects across Southeast Asia, especially for maritime neighbours like Indonesia and Singapore. As defence, tech, and aerospace capabilities rise in the region, LIMA becomes a focal point for collaboration and economic opportunity. With increasing cross-border cooperation and supply chain integration, LIMA reflects a shared vision of ASEAN-led peace and resilience.

LIMA’25 not only cements Malaysia’s role as a peace-driven defence player, but also creates opportunities for ASEAN neighbours, including Indonesia and Singapore, to engage in cooperative security, technological development, and regional resilience. By balancing hard power with soft diplomacy, the exhibition presents a forward-looking model for regional stability.
