Viral video reveals brutal attack on punk frontman, linked to long-standing feud from 2024
Six men have been arrested after allegedly assaulting the vocalist of punk band Armpunk Sindicate during a live event in Johor Bahru. The assault, which occurred on May 10, has shocked Malaysia’s underground music scene and prompted a multi-charge police investigation.
The incident took place at a gym near City Plaza during a live performance by another band, Remember 69 Rundown. The 23-year-old vocalist from Ampang, Selangor, was attacked with a metal dustbin by a group of men during the May 10 concert.
Footage of the brutal incident quickly spread on social media, including the band’s official Facebook page, showing the victim sustaining visible injuries to the head, face, and body. He was later treated as an outpatient at Ampang Hospital.
Johor Bahru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed that police opened an investigation after the video emerged. A formal police report was filed by the victim on May 12 in Ampang.
On the night of May 13, police arrested three suspects aged 34 to 36 in Johor Bahru and Segamat. Another three suspects, aged 28 to 40, were detained the next day in the same districts. All six are currently under remand for four days to facilitate further investigation.
Feud Traced Back to 2024 Music Event
Authorities believe the violence was rooted in an unresolved feud between the main suspect and the victim during a music event in Ampang last year. It was alleged that the assault stemmed from a perceived disrespect—the vocalist reportedly failed to greet or kiss the hands of senior attendees at the earlier show.
Raub confirmed that several suspects have criminal histories. One tested positive for benzodiazepines, while another for marijuana. Confiscated mobile phones are now under forensic review.

Investigation Covers Multiple Offences
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network services, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.
Police stated that investigation papers are nearing completion and suspects are expected to be prosecuted. Authorities are also tracking other individuals potentially involved in the attack.
Musical Community Responds With Outrage
The assault has sparked widespread condemnation from various segments of the music community, who view it as an attack on artistic expression and safety within subcultural events. While physical violence linked to personal disagreements isn’t new in underground circles, the visibility and brutality of this case have drawn unprecedented attention.
This incident has also reopened conversations about safety at independent gigs, venue accountability, and respect among musicians and fans across generations.
The assault on Armpunk Sindicate’s vocalist underscores rising tensions within Malaysia’s underground music communities. With the suspects in custody and legal proceedings underway, the case highlights the need for greater mutual respect, safer concert spaces, and swift justice. For audiences and artists in both Malaysia and the region, it’s a reminder that creative platforms must never be marred by violence or personal vendettas.
