Amid rain and lightning, 38 scenes reconstruct how Hafiz was killed inside his Batam government office.
A harrowing crime reconstruction in Batam has revealed the violent death of Hafiz Rinanda, a civil service contract worker whose throat was repeatedly slit by a co-worker in a brutal daylight attack at their workplace.
Scene-by-Scene Breakdown Exposes Premeditation
On May 5, 2025, police in Batam conducted a detailed 38-scene reconstruction of the murder of Hafiz Rinanda, 29, an honorary staff member of the Department of Spatial Planning (CKTR). The accused, Faras Kausar, 26, a fellow employee and relative of the victim, reenacted the crime in the presence of legal officials. The session was briefly halted due to heavy rain and lightning as it entered scene four.

The attack took place on April 14, 2025. According to investigators, Faras arrived at the CKTR office at 7:30 AM, later returned to his boarding house to change clothes and buy a knife, and came back wearing work attire with the weapon concealed behind his back.
Scene 28–29: The Killing of Hafiz
In scene 27, Hafiz called out, “Ras, come here!” Faras approached, shook his hand, and stood behind him.
Scene 28 showed Faras placing his right hand on Hafiz’s head, tilting it to the side. He then slit Hafiz’s throat three times from behind with the knife.
Scene 29 captured Hafiz staggering forward three steps before collapsing, drenched in blood. Witnesses Andika and Remon were present during the attack and immediately called for an ambulance.
The knife was thrown beside the office. Faras was subdued by colleagues Habib and Ramon, then taken into custody by Sekupang Police.
According to police, the motive stemmed from long-term bullying Hafiz allegedly inflicted on Faras over several years. Faras confessed during interrogation that he had been publicly humiliated and emotionally cornered, leading to the meticulously planned revenge.
Police believe the act was not impulsive but rather systematically executed, citing how Faras disguised his intent by returning to work in uniform, concealing the knife, and approaching the victim calmly.

Weather Halts Early Scenes
The reconstruction, held outdoors at the CKTR complex, was briefly halted during scene four due to heavy rain and lightning. Officers paused the proceedings for safety before resuming once conditions stabilized. Despite the weather, all 38 scenes were eventually completed.
Scene 1 began with Faras entering the office compound on his Vario motorcycle, following his usual routine. Later scenes mapped out his movements to the boarding house, the store where the knife was bought, and his methodical return to the crime scene.
Faras Kausar is now officially charged under Article 340 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for premeditated murder, facing a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or death.
Police Chief Kombes Zaenal Arifin confirmed the reconstruction was legally mandated and conducted in front of prosecutors and legal representatives. “This is part of the legal procedure before prosecution,” he said.
Incident Shocks Civil Sector in Batam
The murder of a civil servant inside a government facility has shocked local communities and civil institutions. The event, which unfolded in broad daylight, has raised concerns about mental health, workplace hostility, and oversight within government departments.
Reconstruction efforts took place across the CKTR compound, from the parking lot to the second-floor guard post and external areas, drawing attention to security gaps in public offices.
The brutal killing of Hafiz Rinanda, reenacted in harrowing detail during the reconstruction in Batam, underscores the tragic cost of unresolved workplace conflict. As Faras faces prosecution for premeditated murder, the case amplifies national conversations around mental health, civil service protection, and legal consequences for internal abuse. The legal process is now poised to unfold under intense public scrutiny.
