Motorcyclist and car driver stopped to assist fallen rider before a fatal chain collision occurred.

A tragic accident involving five vehicles on the North-South Expressway near Kempas Toll, Johor, claimed the life of a young motorcyclist early on April 29, 2025, after an initial act of assistance led to a devastating chain collision.

According to an official statement by Johor Baru South Police Deputy Chief Superintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei, the accident began around 6:25 am when a 23-year-old local man riding a Honda motorcycle lost control and fell on the right lane of KM1.6 North-South Expressway heading towards Johor Bahru city centre.

Initial Assistance by Riders and Drivers

Following the initial fall, a 33-year-old local man riding a Yamaha motorcycle and the driver of a Toyota Vios stopped their vehicles in the middle and right lanes to assist the fallen rider. Unfortunately, while they were attempting to help, a Honda car failed to brake in time and collided with the stationary Toyota Vios.

Moments later, a Subaru Impreza driven by a Singaporean man traveling in the same direction failed to stop in time and struck the fallen Honda rider. The impact also involved the Yamaha motorcyclist, the Toyota Vios, and the Honda car, resulting in a devastating chain collision.

The 23-year-old Honda rider died instantly at the scene due to severe injuries. Meanwhile, the Yamaha motorcyclist sustained a broken right foot and was quickly transported to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru for treatment. Fortunately, the drivers of the involved cars escaped without serious injuries.

Johor Baru South police have called for any eyewitnesses to assist in the ongoing investigation by contacting the JBS Traffic Police or the assigned investigating officer.

The police have also urged the public to exercise extreme caution when assisting accident victims on busy highways, emphasizing the need for personal safety and the safety of others on the road.

This fatal incident highlights the dangers of assisting at accident scenes on expressways without adequate safety measures, and serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks that motorists face daily on Malaysia’s highways.

The tragic chain collision at the Kempas Toll stretch of the North-South Expressway underlines the importance of safety and caution during roadside emergencies. As investigations continue, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant, ensuring that acts of assistance do not lead to further tragedies.
