Gruesome murder and mutilation unfolded in Thailand, raising questions over safety and premeditation.
In a horrifying incident that shocked Thailand, a Chinese national murdered and mutilated a 25-year-old transwoman after a violent altercation. The brutal act, coupled with evidence of careful planning, has captured international attention.
On the evening of April 25, 2025, 42-year-old Fu Tongyung, a Chinese national from Hubei province, met Woranan Pannacha, a 25-year-old transwoman, at South Pattaya beach. They exchanged WeChat contacts after Fu, believing Woranan was a cisgender woman, proposed a sexual transaction. The pair later agreed to meet that night at Fu’s rented apartment, with a payment of 8,000 baht.

Meeting at Apartment and Escalation of Conflict
At around 9:00 PM, Woranan arrived at Fu’s room in central Pattaya. Shortly after, an argument erupted when Woranan refused to engage in sexual activity. Fu demanded a 50% refund, which she declined. Between 1:00 AM and 2:30 AM, the disagreement turned violent. Witnesses later reported hearing Woranan scream, “Let me go! Don’t hurt me!” during the confrontation.
Brutal Murder and Mutilation
During the altercation, Woranan reportedly scratched Fu’s face and kicked him off the bed. In retaliation, Fu overpowered her, sat on her, and strangled her until she lost consciousness. Confirming her death, Fu dragged Woranan’s body into the bathroom.
Using a pair of scissors purchased earlier that day, Fu cut open her body from the neck down to the genitals. He admitted to removing her heart and silicone breast implants, claiming he “wanted to play” with her body. One lung was reported missing, though Fu denied removing it. After mutilating the body, Fu cleaned the room thoroughly to erase signs of blood before going to sleep next to the corpse.
Premeditation Evident from Shopping List
Evidence collected later revealed that Fu had visited a discount store near his apartment roughly 200 meters away. Surveillance footage captured him buying scissors, black plastic bags, clear plastic bags, zip ties, and tape — all suggesting the murder was premeditated. These items were later recovered from the scene.
Attempted Escape and Arrest at Airport

On the morning of April 26, 2025, Fu booked a ticket to Kunming, China. He traveled towards Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok via motorcycle taxi and intercity bus to avoid detection. However, his plan was thwarted. Thai immigration officers, tipped off by investigators, arrested Fu at the airport around 1:45 PM as he attempted to flee the country.
Discovery of the Crime Scene

Meanwhile, concerned staff at the apartment complex, disturbed by a foul smell and Woranan’s absence, entered the room using a spare key around 10:00 AM on April 26. Inside, they found Woranan’s mutilated body lying in the bathroom in a pool of blood. The room was suspiciously clean, except for faint traces of blood, indicating efforts to conceal the crime.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Reaction

Fu confessed to the crime during interrogation, citing uncontrollable rage. Authorities have ruled out organ trafficking, clarifying that the mutilation stemmed from Fu’s own impulses rather than external motives. As investigations proceed, Thai police are urging the public to await official autopsy results for complete verification.
The gruesome murder of Woranan Pannacha has left Thailand reeling, highlighting the persistent dangers faced by transwomen and underlining the urgent need for better protection for marginalized communities. Justice must be pursued fully and transparently to honor the victim’s memory.
