42-year-old woman stabs RT leader during community garden cleanup in shocking daytime attack
A peaceful community cleanup turned violent in Batam when a 42-year-old woman stabbed her neighborhood chief multiple times, sending shockwaves through residents of the Greenland housing complex.
The incident took place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at a public park in Perumahan Greenland, Batam Kota. The victim, identified as Amir (74), is the elected head (RT) of Blok A. He was seriously injured while tending to the neighborhood garden with fellow residents.
Victim Hospitalised After Brutal Knife Attack
Witnesses reported that Amir was cleaning the garden when a woman identified as “A” suddenly approached and began stabbing him with a kitchen knife. The attack left multiple wounds on his thigh, arm, stomach, and hip. Bystanders were too shocked to intervene immediately, with one resident saying they were even threatened when trying to stop her.
Amir, who is recovering from a prior stroke, was rushed to Budi Kemuliaan Hospital in a critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. Family members later confirmed he was recovering and conscious, bearing stitches across his wounded areas.
Motive: A Grudge Years in the Making?
According to Batam Kota Police Chief Inspector Bobby Ramadhana, the woman confessed that she acted out of longstanding resentment toward Amir. While the motive is currently limited to personal anger, police are continuing to investigate the nature of their relationship.
“She admitted she had been harbouring emotional pain toward the victim,” said Bobby. “But we are still verifying whether there are deeper causes or psychological elements at play.”
Mental Health Angle Not Ruled Out
Although some residents suspect the attacker may be suffering from mental health issues, police have not yet confirmed this. Bobby said the force would only assess mental health conditions based on professional evaluations.
“We cannot claim she has a disorder unless it’s confirmed by a medical expert,” he stressed.
Immediate Police Response and Detention
The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and is now in police custody at the Batam Kota Police Station. The authorities are compiling evidence to be submitted to the Batam District Prosecutor’s Office for formal prosecution.
The attack has caused significant concern in the community, particularly due to its abruptness and the vulnerability of the elderly victim.
