Post-Ramadan energy fuels Batam leadership’s push for fast service, green spaces, and business collaboration

Batam’s leadership is urging stronger synergy between the government and private sector as the city moves forward with infrastructure and environmental improvements, including the revitalization of Baloi River and post-holiday productivity momentum.

On April 8, 2025, Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra led site visits and city-wide calls to action after the Lebaran holiday. Their agenda focused on environmental improvements, investment acceleration, and public service reform.

In a rain-soaked inspection of the Baloi River project on April 8, 2025, Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra emphasized their commitment to turning the once-clogged waterway into a revitalized green public space. Joined by BP Batam officials, they declared the project’s dual benefit: preventing floods and enhancing the city’s urban aesthetics.

Amsakar, who also leads BP Batam, called on nearby developers—particularly the Permata Residence management—to participate in the rehabilitation effort. “We want this area to be cleaned up and transformed into a comfortable public space,” he said.

The city plans to turn the revitalized area into an urban park or green open space (RTH). According to Li Claudia, this would not only benefit the community but could also become a tourist-friendly, “Instagramable” attraction. She added that BP Batam’s infrastructure division had already been tasked with preparing the design.

The leaders emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader goals of climate resilience and sustainable urban development. However, both clarified that any transformation must coordinate with ongoing legal processes related to land and waterway use in the Baloi area.

On the same day, Batam’s civil servants gathered at Dataran Engku Putri for a post-Ramadan ceremony and a united call to action. During the joint halal bihalal and city hall briefing, Amsakar urged government staff to return from the holiday with renewed urgency and efficiency.

He stressed that with nine months remaining in the year, Batam must act fast to realize planned programs. He called for rapid policy finalization, including potential mayoral regulations (Perwako) to avoid bureaucratic delays in delivering public services and supporting investment.

“There’s no more room for slow service,” Amsakar said. “We must work quickly and effectively—especially when it comes to investors. Nothing should be held up by long processes.”

Li Claudia echoed that spirit of unity, urging civil servants to channel their Ramadan blessings into a shared mission for progress. She called for stronger internal bonds and a collective commitment to make Batam more prosperous, inclusive, and advanced.

Batam’s momentum post-Ramadan is being shaped by leadership that blends environmental renewal with administrative urgency. As the Baloi River awaits transformation and public servants are called to accelerate, both Singaporean investors and Batam residents stand to benefit from a city focused on speed, green space, and private-public collaboration. The direction is clear—Batam’s leaders want results, fast and lasting.
