Family demands justice as authorities investigate if Batam man’s death was accident or murder.
The sudden death of Tatap Limbong, a well-known cooperative leader in Batam, has raised serious questions among family members and the public. His body was found under suspicious circumstances near Tembesi, sparking widespread speculation.
On March 27, 2025, Tatap Limbong, a resident of Bengkong, Batam, was found dead near the Twiangkang forest area in Sagulung. His body was located near his fallen motorcycle, and the condition of the remains led to immediate doubts as to whether it was a traffic accident or something more sinister.

Grief and Confusion Grip the Family
Tatap’s relatives are inconsolable and frustrated. Viral videos from TikTok user @jeremiharianja35 show women—believed to be family members—wailing in disbelief at the wake held in Bengkong. Many online viewers expressed shock and sympathy, particularly since Tatap was reportedly a well-regarded and kind figure within his community.

His brother, Din Limbong, voiced the family’s growing unease. “We are not ready to accept this as a simple accident,” he said on April 4. “We are awaiting the autopsy to confirm if there are signs of violence or something more sinister.”
The family disclosed that Tatap had left behind a wife and a nine-month-old infant, deepening the pain and urgency for justice.
Autopsy Results Awaited as Police Expand Probe
Following the report of his disappearance, Tatap’s body was transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital for an autopsy. As of April 7, investigators had yet to publicly disclose results, but authorities from Sagulung and Bengkong precincts confirmed that five witnesses had been questioned.
Kombes Zaenal, Chief of Batam City Police (Polresta Barelang), stated, “We are coordinating between Satreskrim and the local units. The investigation is ongoing, and we’re carefully synchronizing witness statements.”
The police are also exploring whether Tatap’s role as a cooperative head may have led to conflicts that could explain his death. However, no suspects have been named, and no definitive conclusions have been released to the public.

Scene Details Raise More Questions than Answers
Local resident Ronal Aritonang, though not closely acquainted with the victim, pointed out several oddities. “The motorbike was nearby, but there were no signs of a crash. No road markings, no signs of braking. It just doesn’t add up,” he told local media.
The state of decomposition suggests the body had been in the forest for days. Yet, police were initially unsure of the man’s identity, prompting them to request that anyone with missing relatives come forward. It wasn’t until family members identified personal belongings and clothing that Tatap was officially confirmed as the deceased.
Emotional Impact and Public Response
The manner and location of Tatap’s death has cast a spotlight on crime perception and safety concerns in Batam. Netizens poured into social media, condemning the incident and urging authorities not to let the case fade without resolution. Hashtags related to the case trended regionally, as people debated whether the tragedy was being taken seriously enough.
Tatap’s remains were eventually brought back to Medan—his hometown—for burial two days after being discovered, with prayers from the family that justice would soon follow.
The case of Tatap Limbong reflects a broader issue in regional justice and trust in law enforcement. With a grieving family, unanswered questions, and a community demanding clarity, the outcome of the ongoing investigation could shape public confidence in Batam’s legal processes and safety landscape.
