Enhanced patrols and red flag zones introduced to prevent accidents at Batam’s coastal attractions

As Eid holidaymakers flock to Batam’s beaches, authorities have stepped up efforts to ensure public safety through enhanced patrols, safety advisories, and red flag warnings.

Operation Ketupat Seligi 2025, launched by the Riau Islands Regional Police, is a regional initiative to secure public areas during Eid. In Batam, the operation focuses heavily on coastal tourist zones, which see a sharp rise in visitor numbers during the festive period.

On April 2, officers from Operation Ketupat Seligi 2025 were deployed across Batam’s beachside tourist areas to manage crowds and reduce the risk of water-related incidents. The initiative included direct engagement with tourists through safety reminders about swimming zones, ocean currents, child supervision, and the use if flotation devices.

As part of the operation, police installed red warning flags to mark hazardous swimming areas. “We want tourists to enjoy their holidays safely. That’s why we’ve increased patrols and are giving active safety guidance,” said Head of Public Relations Task Force Kombes Pol Zahwani Pandra Arsyad in an official statement.

In a parallel effort, SAR Task Force Chief Ipda Miftachul Munir thanked the public for their cooperation, reminding families to prioritize personal safety while enjoying the beach. Coordination with medical teams and tourism operators has been intensified to handle potential emergencies.

Tourists expressed appreciation for the initiative. “We feel safer knowing the police are here,” said Siti, a visitor at Pantai Melayu. Another tourist, Putra, added, “The red flag zones help us protect our children. It’s very helpful.” Officers also stationed themselves at key posts for rapid response and advised the public to contact the police via hotline 110 when needed.

The operation reflects a growing commitment by local authorities to enhance Batam’s appeal as a safe and family-friendly holiday destination—especially during festive periods when tourism peaks.

With enhanced coordination and community-focused safety strategies, Batam reinforces its position as a welcoming destination for regional tourists. Improved crisis response and visible enforcement at beach areas can bolster visitor confidence and cross-border travel from neighboring Singapore and Malaysia.
