Johor police make significant strides in curbing illegal street racing with statewide operation
In a major crackdown on illegal street racing, Johor police arrested 28 individuals and seized 291 motorcycles over two weeks. The operation, conducted from March 10 to 24, aimed to address reckless riding and violations of traffic laws across the state.
The operation, named Ops Samseng Jalanan, was executed across all districts under Johor’s jurisdiction. The arrests and seizures highlight the ongoing efforts to combat illegal street racing and improve road safety in the state.
Statewide Operation Targets Reckless Riders
Johor police launched a two-week statewide operation targeting illegal street racing and reckless riding, arresting 28 individuals, including a 14-year-old boy. The operation spanned March 10 to 24 and was carried out across all districts in the state. Johor police chief, Comm Datuk M. Kumar, confirmed that those arrested are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries penalties of up to RM15,000 in fines, five years in prison, and a five-year driving ban.
The police operation also resulted in the seizure of 291 motorcycles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act. The motorcycles were impounded while authorities worked to identify their owners, aiming to prevent repeat offenses. Additionally, Johor police issued 2,768 summonses for various traffic violations, with most stemming from offenses such as riding without a valid license, improper vehicle registration plates, and illegal exhaust modifications.

Comm Kumar emphasized the importance of raising awareness about road safety and adhering to traffic laws. He stated that the operation would continue to educate road users and deter individuals who disregard the rules. “Johor police will not compromise with anyone who blatantly flouts existing rules and regulations,” Kumar asserted.
